For film stars, public appearances and fan interactions are part of professional life. Threats and acts of violence can change those routines, prompting stronger protection at home and wherever they work. In some cases, the response has involved police escorts or government security cover; in others, families have installed protective glass, added surveillance or hired private guards. The reasons differ, from personal threats to precautions after an attack elsewhere. These documented cases show how several Bollywood actors’ security arrangements changed over the years, and the circumstances that led to those decisions.

1. Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan’s weekly greeting at Jalsa looked different on November 1, 2026. He acknowledged fans from behind a protective glass enclosure, described in reports as bulletproof, while Abhishek Bachchan stood nearby.

The change followed an October 23 email sent to Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde that named Jalsa among several potential targets. Police said security and surveillance were being strengthened at the places mentioned while investigators examined the threat and traced its source.

The enclosure also appeared amid wider concern after the October attack involving Tiger Shroff. Big B continued the fan interaction, but with an additional physical barrier around his platform. Crucially, reporting had not established whether the glass was installed under an official security direction or privately arranged by the actor’s team.

2. Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan’s security was upgraded to Y+ in October 2023 after a government threat assessment. The Times of India reported that his earlier protection comprised two police constables; the revised arrangement added personal security officers, armed residential protection and an escort. The government’s October 5 communication cited imminent and probable threats, and the protection was provided on a payment basis.

The arrangements outside Mannat came into focus again on his 61st birthday, November 2, 2026. Police deployed personnel, checked vehicles and used barricades to manage access and crowds. Despite uncertainty earlier in the day, SRK did greet fans that evening. NDTV reported that he maintained greater distance from the gathering than on previous occasions.

3. Salman Khan

Salman Khan’s protection has been strengthened repeatedly over several years. Following threats attributed to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, Maharashtra authorities upgraded him to Y+ security in November 2022. Patrolling around his residence had already increased after a threatening letter addressed to him and his father, Salim Khan, surfaced that June.

On April 14, 2024, gunmen fired at Galaxy Apartments, bringing the danger directly to his home. Police subsequently reviewed and increased his protection.

By January 7, 2025, The Indian Express reported a major residential upgrade: a bulletproof glass panel around the balcony and an enhanced CCTV surveillance system. The balcony is where Salman traditionally acknowledges fans on occasions such as Eid. Further reinforcement was reported after the October 2026 shooting involving Tiger Shroff, including additional police presence and work on the existing protective shields.

4. Tiger Shroff

Tiger Shroff’s case followed an actual shooting. On October 18, 2026, attackers opened fire at his car in Mumbai’s Juhu area after he had been playing football. His driver and another person sustained bullet injuries. Tiger escaped without gunshot wounds; subsequent reporting described minor injuries from shattered glass.

Hours later, he was seen arriving home under police protection. NDTV subsequently reported that Mumbai Police had tightened security and deployed personnel outside his residence. The immediate response therefore involved both a police escort and increased residential protection. The attack also prompted wider security reassessments involving other film personalities. The case remained under investigation as police pursued the shooters and the alleged conspiracy behind the attack.

5. Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan’s security arrangements changed after an intruder attacked him inside his Bandra home on January 16, 2025. The stabbing required hospital treatment and brought the safety of the family’s residential building under scrutiny.

By January 22, The Indian Express reported that the building had engaged Ace Security and Services, the agency owned by actor Ronit Roy, and upgraded its CCTV network. Police protection was also provided. A police official subsequently confirmed additional CCTV cameras and window grills as part of the measures, alongside temporary police deployment. The response combined private building security, physical changes and police protection, extending beyond the guards accompanying Saif on public outings. Police described the initial cover as temporary, pending further assessment.

6. Ranveer Singh

On February 10, 2026, reports emerged that Ranveer Singh had received a threatening WhatsApp voice note. Police told PTI that they were investigating the message, with extortion suspected as its purpose, and security at his residence was stepped up.

Reports also described six armed private guards at the housing complex he shares with Deepika Padukone. A letter attributed to the society’s managing committee sought police clarification about the deployment and raised concerns about armed personnel moving through shared spaces. That correspondence reveals another consequence of a security escalation: protective arrangements at an apartment complex can affect other residents as well. The heightened arrangements involved both police action and privately deployed guards.

7. Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar’s recent case requires a distinction between documented deployment and disputed reports about his home. On November 3, 2026, ABP News reported armed police personnel and private guards outside his Juhu residence, linking the increased protection to information emerging from the Tiger Shroff firing investigation.

Akshay had previously been granted X-category protection in the Maharashtra government’s November 2022 security review, following online threats reported at the time. NDTV had earlier reported a bulletproof-glass installation. India Today’s October 21 ground report disputed the upgrade claims. The November 3 coverage provides a dated account of additional police deployment, while the position on a completed glass shield remains unclear.

8. Deepika Padukone

Deepika’s individual security was increased during the controversy surrounding Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film, then titled ‘Padmavati’, in November 2017. A Karni Sena leader publicly threatened physical harm to her as protests against the film intensified.

Mumbai Police confirmed that they had increased her protection. Joint Commissioner of Police Deven Bharti told PTI that adequate security was being provided after the threat; the arrangements also covered her Mumbai residence and office. The controversy had already involved intimidation directed at the production and its director, making the threat against its leading actress especially serious.

9. Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan’s November 2015 security increase followed the backlash to his comments about intolerance at the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards. On November 24, Maharashtra Police confirmed that he had been given police protection.

The explanation was specific: police said they had information that some organisations might protest, although no protest had occurred at his home or elsewhere in Mumbai at that point. This was a preventive deployment in anticipation of possible trouble, rather than protection announced after an attack on his residence. His home came under renewed security attention in October 2026. The Indian Express reported intensified patrolling near his Bandra residence following the Tiger Shroff shooting. Police precautions in the two episodes responded to different concerns: anticipated protests in 2015 and the wider security alert in 2026.

10. Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut was accorded Y+ protection by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in September 2020, amid her escalating public dispute with Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and her stated concerns about returning to Mumbai.

The Indian Express quoted a Home Ministry official saying intelligence agencies had assessed a threat to her life. The Central Reserve Police Force provided the security cover, with arrangements encompassing personal and residential protection. The Himachal Pradesh government separately discussed police protection for her Manali residence after her family sought assistance. The central cover followed an intelligence assessment, while the state government addressed residential protection in Himachal Pradesh. The arrangements explain why reports from that period referred to more than one security agency.

11. Anupam Kher

Anupam Kher’s protection was linked to threats received after the release of ‘The Kashmir Files’ in 2022. In November that year, The Indian Express reported that the Maharashtra government had categorised his security under the X category.

The development formed part of the government security review that also covered Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. For Anupam Kher, the reported response involved personal security officers under the state’s police protection arrangements. His case shows how threats surrounding a film’s release could lead to an official review of an actor’s safety.

Speaking to NDTV on November 3, actor and security-agency owner Ronit Roy confirmed that demand for celebrity protection had increased after the Tiger Shroff firing. He described the additional precautions as preventive, saying, “Everyone wants to be careful and feel protected”.

12. Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik Roshan had barely begun his journey as a leading actor when an attack on his father brought police protection into his life. On January 21, 2000, Rakesh Roshan was shot outside his Santacruz office, shortly after the release of ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’.

Rediff’s report from the hospital that day recorded that Hrithik had been provided police protection, with an armed constable accompanying him inside the premises. Subsequent reporting also documented stronger security at the family’s Juhu residence. The protection followed the attack on his father and concerns surrounding the family’s safety.

13. Disha Patani

For Disha Patani’s family, the security concern reached their doorstep in the early hours of September 12, 2025. Two motorcycle-borne men allegedly opened fire outside their Bareilly residence while family members were asleep. Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya subsequently confirmed that security personnel had been deployed at the property to protect its occupants. Police also formed multiple teams to investigate the shooting.

The distinction here matters: Disha lived in Mumbai, while her parents, sister Khushboo and other relatives occupied the Bareilly house. The confirmed security measure was protection at her family home. At the time, police were also verifying a purported social media post claiming responsibility for the attack.

14. Vivek Oberoi

Ahead of the release of ‘PM Narendra Modi’, in which he played the title role, Vivek Oberoi was placed under police protection following intelligence inputs about a threat to his safety. On May 22, 2019, Mumbai Police provided the actor with two personal security officers. A police vehicle was also stationed outside his residence, extending the precautions beyond the personnel accompanying him.

A police official confirmed the arrangements to PTI. Although the development coincided with the biopic’s impending release, the official account did not identify the source of the threat or establish its precise motive. The documented response comprised both personal protection and a police presence at home.

15. Boman Irani

Boman Irani was preparing for the release of ‘Happy New Year’ when a threatening phone call led to police protection in August 2014. A senior police official told PTI that the actor had received a threat call allegedly from fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari and had been provided security while investigators examined the case. The official did not disclose the precise nature of the threat or the number of personnel assigned.

The development came during a wider period of concern for the film industry, following gunfire outside producer Ali Morani’s residence. For Boman, however, the reported trigger for protection was the threatening call directed at him.

16. Rakesh Roshan

Rakesh Roshan’s case involved an attempt on his life. On January 21, 2000, gunmen attacked the actor-filmmaker outside his Santacruz office, leaving him injured and requiring hospital treatment. Police protection followed, while security was strengthened at his Juhu residence. Armed officers also accompanied his son, Hrithik, as the family dealt with the aftermath.

A December 2004 report in The Times of India recalled that the earlier police cover had been withdrawn more than a year after the shooting, once the threats subsided. The account illustrates how protective arrangements can change following reviews of the danger facing a family.

17. Karan Johar

An alleged extortion message prompted police protection for Karan Johar in 2013. According to police, the filmmaker received a text from an international number demanding money, with investigators suspecting gangster Ravi Pujari’s involvement. Police subsequently provided security at Johar’s residence in Mumbai’s Khar area. Contemporary reporting also recorded temporary armed protection through the local police station and his request for round-the-clock cover.

The initial deployment and the request were separate developments: armed protection had been provided, while Karan Johar sought more extensive arrangements as the threat was investigated.

18. Mahesh Bhatt

Mahesh Bhatt’s security was reinforced in November 2014 after Mumbai Police uncovered an alleged conspiracy to kill him and members of his family. Police arrested 13 alleged members of Ravi Pujari’s gang in connection with the investigation. According to a Crime Branch officer quoted in contemporary reporting, suspected shooters had visited Mahesh Bhatt’s office on earlier occasions but had been unable to carry out the alleged plan.

The family already had security cover, which was stepped up after the discovery. Unlike cases involving a first deployment of guards, this was an escalation of existing protection following information about a specific alleged conspiracy.
