Surprise! ‘Tumbbad’ Re-Release Performs Better Than Kareena Kapoor’s ‘The Buckingham Murders’
‘Tumbbad’ re-release has been performing better than Kareena Kapoor Khan's ‘The Buckingham Murders’.

‘Tumbbad’ was originally released in 2018 but the Hindi folk horror film tanked at the box office, after not finding many takers at the ticket counters. However, over the years, the film has gained a cult status. Recently, the Rahi Anil Barve directorial was re-released in cinemas, and surprisingly, the film has outperformed Kareena Kapoor Khan's new movie ‘The Buckingham Murders’, which was released in two languages – Hinglish and Hindi.
After earning Rs 1.6 crore on the first day, ‘Tumbbad’ made Rs 2.6 crore on the second day and ended its opening weekend with Rs 3 crore on Sunday. The total nett domestic collection of the film now stands at Rs 7.2 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. The Monday numbers are yet to be disclosed, however, the three-day weekend collection is an eye-opener for all.
For the unversed, at the time of its original release in 2018, the opening weekend of ‘Tumbbad’ grossed Rs 3.25 crore. The film managed to only make Rs 13.25 crore during its theatrical run.
The sequel of ‘Tumbbad’ titled ‘Tumbbad 2’ has also been announced. However, it is not known when the film will release in cinemas.
In the past few months, several Hindi movies have been re-released at the box office. ‘Laila Majnu’ and ‘Rockstar’ both made over Rs 10 crore in their respective re-releases.
Speaking of Kareena Kapoor Khan's 'The Buckingham Murders', the film earned Rs 0.75 crore on Monday, the fourth day of its release. The total nett domestic collection of the film now stands at Rs 6 crore.
‘The Buckingham Murders’ had its world premiere at the 67th BFI London Film Festival on October 14, 2023. The movie follows the story of a British-Indian detective, who is coping with a personal tragedy while investigating the murder of a child in Buckinghamshire.
The movie also stars Ranveer Brar, Rukku Nahar, Ash Tandon, and Keith Allen in key roles.
Meanwhile, Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana and Pankaj Tripathi’s ‘Stree 2’, which released on Independence Day 2024, earned Rs 3 crore on Monday, the 33rd day of its release.
The nett domestic collection of the film now stands at Rs 557.85 crore in India. The Amar Kaushik directorial has already become the second highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
It remains to be seen whether it manages to break the record of Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan' to become the highest-grossing Hindi film in India yet.
