Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ is finally set to hit theatres this week.

After months of delays, legal hurdles, CBFC certification issues, and even an online leak, Thalapathy Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' is finally set to hit theatres this week. The film marks Tamil superstar-turned-Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s last appearance on the big screen before he shifts his complete focus to politics, making it one of the most anticipated Tamil releases in recent years. The excitement surrounding the film is reflecting in its advance ticket sales. Bookings, which opened four days before release, witnessed a strong response almost immediately, prompting trade analysts to forecast a blockbuster opening.

Several industry experts believe the film has the potential to cross the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide on its first day. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Jana Nayagan' has so far sold more than 6,50,000 tickets for the opening day, grossing Rs 15.48 crore. If one considers the block bookings, the amount swells up to Rs 21.29 crore.

The release has been planned on a massive scale, with around 8,000 shows scheduled across India, including more than 3,500 screenings in Tamil Nadu. Overseas, the film's advance sales for its opening weekend have reportedly crossed Rs 30 crore.

Most of the pre-release business, however, has come from the original Tamil version. While demand remains exceptionally strong in Tamil Nadu, advance bookings in several northern markets have been comparatively muted, indicating that the film's opening will rely heavily on its core audience.

With one day still left before release, exhibitors expect ticket sales to accelerate further. Although the film is unlikely to match the record-setting advance booking numbers of Vijay's ‘Leo’, which earned around Rs 46 crore before release, it remains within striking distance of ‘The Greatest of All Time’ (GOAT), which had collected approximately Rs 29 crore in advance sales.

Internationally, the outlook appears equally promising. Markets such as North America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia are expected to contribute significantly to the opening-day haul, with overseas earnings projected to cross USD 4 million. Combined with domestic collections, the film is expected to register a worldwide gross of more than Rs 100 crore on its first day.

Should those estimates materialise, 'Jana Nayagan' would become the 19th Indian film and only the third Tamil film to cross the Rs 100 crore worldwide mark on its opening day. However, it is still expected to trail Rajinikanth's 'Coolie', which holds the record for the biggest opening by a Tamil film with Rs 153 crore worldwide.

Directed by H Vinoth, 'Jana Nayagan' serves as Vijay's swansong as an actor before his full-time political career. Originally scheduled for a January release, the film was postponed after facing delays in securing CBFC certification. During the intervening months, Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) won the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, after which he assumed office as the state's Chief Minister.

The film features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj and Narain. The technical crew includes composer Anirudh Ravichander, cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan and editor Pradeep E Ragav. The film will hit the theatres on Thursday, July 23, and the project has a reported run time of 3 hours and 3 minutes.
