Sunny Deol's 'Jaat' Becomes Fourth-Biggest Bollywood Opener Of 2025
Here's how much Sunny Deol's 'Jaat' made on the opening day of its release.

Sunny Deol might have delivered the biggest hit of his career in 2023 with 'Gadar 2'. However, his next release 'Jaat' has come as a reality check, showcasing how it has become increasingly difficult for Hindi films to open to big numbers if they are not a franchise film. 'Jaat', which also stars Randeep Hooda and Vineet Kumar Singh, released in cinemas on Thursday, April 10 and the first day collection is not impressive. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Jaat' opened to a collection of Rs 9.50 crore on the opening day.
For the unversed, the first day of the film's release was a partial holiday in most parts of India owing to Mahavir Jayanti.
'Jaat' witnessed just a 14 per cent occupancy on Thursday. However, the Sunny Deol-starrer is now the fourth-biggest Hindi opener of 2025, behind 'Chhaava', 'Sikandar' and 'Sky Force'.
Vicky Kaushal's 'Chhaava' earned Rs 31 crore on Day 1, while Salman Khan's 'Sikandar' and Akshay Kumar's 'Sky Force' earned Rs 26 crore and Rs 12 crore respectively. Salman Khan's 'Sikandar' has tanked at the box office. The Hindi film industry has had one hit in 2025 this year and it is 'Chhaava', which is nearing the Rs 600 crore mark in India.
The opening day numbers of 'Jaat' might be significantly lower than 'Gadar 2', but it is higher than any of Sunny Deol's other recent films. The new Hindi film caters to the masses and it is expected to perform well in B and C centres as compared to bigger cities. The film has opened to mixed to negative reviews.
The new Hindi film has been directed by Gopichand Malineni and also stars Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher and Ramya Krishnan. Earlier, at the trailer launch event of 'Jaat', Sunny Deol expressed his wish of seeing Bollywood producers learning from the conviction of the South makers.
"I wish Bollywood producers learn something from South producers. Make it Hindi cinema first, and then learn how to make cinema. The script is the hero there. I had so much fun that I’m already asking them to make another film with me. Kya pata wahin ja ke bas jau main," said Sunny Deol.
Sunny Deol was last seen in Anil Sharma's 'Gadar 2' alongside Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film registered a nett collection of Rs 525.70 crore in India against an approximate budget of Rs 80 crore.
Next up, Sunny Deol will be seen in 'Lahore 1947', directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and backed by Aamir Khan Productions. He will also be seen in 'Border 2', alongside Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh.
The film is expected to release in 2026. Sunny Deol had recently shared that 'Border 2' will be set in 1971.
