Rajkummar Rao's ‘Srikanth’ Outperforms Vikrant Massey's ‘12th Fail’ In Opening Weekend

‘Srikanth’ has performed better than films like ‘12th Fail’, ‘Madgaon Express’ and ‘Laapataa Ladies’.

Rajkummar Rao, Alaya F, Jyotika and Sharad Kelkar-starrer ‘Srikanth’, which was released in cinemas on May 10, is winning the hearts of both critics and audiences. The new Hindi movie is going from strength to strength at the ticket counters. And as a result, ‘Srikanth’ has recorded a better opening weekend than films like ‘12th Fail’, ‘Madgaon Express’ and ‘Laapataa Ladies’. Rajkummar Rao’s ‘Srikanth’ registered its highest single-day haul yet on Sunday, which was the third day of its release.

As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the new Hindi movie minted Rs 5.50 crore on Sunday. The three-day nett domestic collection now stands at Rs 11.95 crore. It remains to be seen how the new Hindi movie performs on Monday, and it will give us an indication of how much the film might make in its total run.

‘Srikanth’ has performed better than Kunal Kemmu's ‘Madgaon Express’. The movie, starring Avinash Tiwary, Divyendu and Pratik Gandhi, minted Rs 7.05 crore in its opening weekend.

On the other hand, Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapataa Ladies’, which was backed by Aamir Khan, made Rs 3.90 crore in its opening weekend. ‘Srikanth’ has also managed to outperform Vikrant Massey's sleeper hit ‘12th Fail’. The Vidhu Vinod Chopra directorial which was released in cinemas last year, collected Rs 6.74 crore in its opening weekend.

For the unversed, ‘Srikanth’ is up against Hollywood film ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ at the box office. Both the films were released in cinemas on May 10 in India.

‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ minted Rs 4.25 crore on Sunday, the third day of its release, and the three-day collection now stands at Rs 11.77 crore, as per Sacnilk.

Coming back to ‘Srikanth’, Rajkummar Rao portrays the role of Srikanth Bolla, an industrialist who fearlessly pursued his dreams despite his visual impairment. The movie has received favourable reviews from all corners.

‘Srikanth’ marks Rajkummar Rao's significant turnaround from his previous theatrical releases such as ‘Bheed’ and ‘HIT: The First Case’.

Rajkummar Rao will next be seen in ‘Mr & Mrs Mahi’, alongside Janhvi Kapoor. The upcoming Hindi movie will be releasing in cinemas on May 31, 2024.

Rajkummar Rao also has ‘Stree 2’ in the pipeline. The movie is slated to be released in cinemas in August 2024.
