Prabhas is back, and this time he’s swapping heavy-duty weaponry for laughs and jump scares. As one of the most anticipated releases of 2026, ‘The Raja Saab’ marks a significant pivot for the superstar as he ventures into the grand-scale horror-comedy genre. While the film has received a mixed bag of reviews, it is fighting hard to maintain its momentum at the box office after a massive start. Despite a bumper opening, the film’s first Sunday saw a surprising trend.

According to data from Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 19.1 crore on its third day – a 26 per cent dip from its Saturday earnings, which is unusual for a Sunday. On Friday, the movie made Rs 53.75 crore. However, some premiere shows of the film began on January 8, and it collected Rs 9.15 crore on Thursday. The total domestic collection of the movie currently stands at Rs 108 crore.

On a global scale, the film has grossed Rs 158 crore during its opening weekend. While these numbers are impressive, the film carries a massive reported budget of Rs 400 crore, meaning it needs to hold steady throughout the week to achieve the superhit status.

In a move to boost audience interest, the makers held a press conference in Hyderabad this past Saturday to address fan feedback. Many viewers expressed disappointment over the absence of a specific older look for Prabhas that had been teased.

Producer TG Vishwa Prasad (People Media Factory) clarified that a 4-minute sequence featuring Prabhas in his old avatar was missing due to technical glitches. He explained that a server crash a week prior delayed the final clean-up of the footage. Those corrections are now complete, and the new scenes have been officially dispatched to theatres to enhance the viewing experience.

Even with the Sunday dip, ‘The Raja Saab’ is outperforming several recent Telugu heavyweights. Its Rs 158 crore worldwide haul has already pushed it past ‘Akhanda 2’ (Rs 128 crore) and ‘Mirai’ (Rs 150 crore).

Experts predict a standard Monday drop, but expectations are high for a massive recovery this Wednesday during the Sankranti holiday. Trade analysts expect the film to breach the Rs 200 crore mark by the end of the festive period.

Directed by Maruthi, the film is being celebrated by fans as the return of ‘Vintage Prabhas’. After a decade of mass action roles following the ‘Baahubali’ phenomenon, this film sees him returning to the family entertainer space.

Produced by People Media Factory and IVY Entertainment, the film features a star-studded ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, Boman Irani and Zarina Wahab.
