This surge in its opening day advance booking is largely attributed to Cinema Lovers Day. On Friday, owing to Cinema Lovers Day, all film tickets will be priced at a flat rate of Rs 99.
This strategy has previously been successful for Hindi films like ‘Article 370’ and ‘Crakk’, which saw higher collections due to discounted prices.
For the unversed, Yami Gautam and Priyamani’s ‘Article 370’ minted Rs 5.75 crore on the opening day of its release, with an overall 42.8 per cent Hindi occupancy. The movie benefitted from Cinema Lovers Day as most theatres in India were running a special discount for all films. Tickets for all movies were available at a discounted price of Rs 99 at the time of the release of ‘Article 370’.
Based on the advance bookings and absence of competition from other big releases, Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s ‘Mr & Mrs Mahi’ could record a similar box office collection as ‘Article 370’.
The discounted first-day tickets are expected to draw more viewers on the opening day of ‘Mr & Mrs Mahi’ than it would have during its first weekend.
‘Mr & Mrs Mahi’ also stars Abhishek Banerjee, Rajesh Sharma, Kumud Mishra, Zarina Wahab and Purnendu Bhattacharya.
The upcoming film is directed by Sharan Sharma, who made his directorial debut with ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’, which starred Janhvi Kapoor in the lead role.
‘Mr & Mrs Mahi’ is backed by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta.
Apart from ‘Mr & Mrs Mahi’, Rajkummar was recently seen in ‘Srikanth’, which is based on the inspiring journey of industrialist Srikanth Bolla. The film is successfully running in theatres.
Rajkummar Rao will be next seen alongside Shraddha Kapoor in ‘Stree 2’ and ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’, co-starring Triptii Dimri.
Janhvi Kapoor, on the other hand, will be next seen in ‘Ulajh’, which will hit the theatres on July 5. She will also mark her Telugu debut with ‘Devara: Part 1’, co-starring Jr NTR and Saif Ali Khan.
She also has ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ alongside Varun Dhawan in the pipeline. Janhvi Kapoor will also be seen opposite Ram Charan in his next untitled film.
