Akshay Kumar's 'Sky Force' went past Rs 100 crore mark, Shahid Kapoor's 'Deva' struggled during its first weekend.

Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde’s new Hindi movie ‘Deva’ is off to a slow start at the box office. The film did not even go past the Rs 20 crore mark in its opening weekend. The Rosshan Andrrews directorial has opened to mixed-to-negative reviews, and hence ‘Deva’ was unable to record a significant jump in its collections on Saturday and Sunday. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, ‘Deva’ earned Rs 7.15 crore on Sunday, the third day of its release.

The film opened to a collection of Rs 5.50 crore on January 31, and ‘Deva’ followed it up with Rs 6.40 crore collection on Saturday. The total nett domestic collection currently stands at Rs 19.05 crore.

On Sunday, ‘Deva’ had an overall Hindi occupancy of 15.34 per cent. The daily earnings of ‘Deva’ are lower than Shahid Kapoor’s previous release ‘Teri Baaton Main Aisa Uljha Jiya’, which co-starred Kriti Sanon.

However, ‘Deva’ earned slightly more on Sunday as compared to Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya’s ‘Sky Force’, which released in cinemas on January 24.

As per Sacnilk, ‘Sky Force’ on Sunday earned Rs 5.57 crore, taking the total nett domestic collection to Rs 100.07 crore. This is Akshay Kumar's first Rs 100 crore grosser since 2023's 'OMG 2', which also starred Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam.

However, the collections of ‘Sky Force’ are under constant scrutiny as the makers have been accused of self buying and blocking seats.

Trade analyst Komal Nahta said that the film's first week collections were just Rs 40.50 crore and not Rs 80 crore, as the makers claimed it to be.

“The total for 1st week was Rs. 40.50 crore. Of course, the records will show total collections of Rs. 80 crore but that’s because heavy block booking of the unsold tickets was done on each single day of the first week to give the impression that the film was performing extraordinarily at the ticket counters,” he told The Indian Express.

“This was, perhaps, the maximum block bookings anyone had ever done in the history of Bollywood. Proof of this lay in the fact that a housefull or near-housefull scenario on BookMyShow.com coincided with near-empty cinema halls because there was no public to fill the seats which were block-booked,” he added.

For the unversed, ‘Sky Force’ marks the debut of Veer Pahariya. It also stars Sara Ali Khan and Nimrat Kaur. As per reports, the official budget of the film is estimated to be around Rs 150-160 crore.
