'Parineeta', 'Mardaani' Director Pradeep Sarkar Dies At 67; Ajay Devgn, Hansal Mehta Condole His Demise

Pradeep Sarkar, 'Parineeta' and 'Mardaani' director, died on Friday morning.

Filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar, famous for directing movies like 'Parineeta', 'Mardaani' and 'Helicopter Eela' died on Friday morning. He was aged 67. His demise was confirmed by Neetu Chandra, and while speaking to The Indian Express, she said: "He was admitted to a hospital last night. He was not keeping well for a long time, he was on dialysis and had other health issues too. His funeral will be today at 4 pm in Santacruz.”

As per several media reports, the director was on dialysis and his potassium levels had dropped drastically.

As soon as the news of his passing surfaced, many celebrities from the film industry condoled his demise.

“The news of Pradeep Sarkar’s demise, ‘Dada’ to some of us is still hard to digest. My deepest condolences. My prayers are with the departed and his family. RIP Dada," tweeted Ajay Devgn.

"Pradeep Sarkar. Dada. RIP," tweeted director Hansal Mehta.

"Ohh! That’s so shocking! Rest in peace Dada," tweeted actor Manoj Bajpayee.

Pradeep Sarkar was initially known for his work in the advertisement industry. 

He then started working with director Rajkumar Hirani and Pradeep Sarkar was credited as the co-editor of 'Munna Bhai MBBS'.

Pradeep Sarkar then directed his first movie titled 'Parineeta' starring Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt.

He then directed movies like 'Laaga Chunari Mein Daag' starring Rani Mukerji, Konkona Sensharma and Abhishek Bachchan, and 'Mardaani' starring Rani Mukerji.

His last directorial film was 'Helicopter Eela', starring Kajol. 

In October 2022, Kangana Ranaut had announced that she would be starring in the director's upcoming film 'Noti Binodini'.
