The makers of ‘Parineeta’, starring Vidya Balan, Sanjay Dutt, and Saif Ali Khan, marked a special milestone on Monday night in Mumbai with a grand screening of the film to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The evening turned out to be a star-studded affair as several familiar faces from the industry came together, dressed in their finest, to relive the magic of the timeless classic.

PVR INOX and Vinod Chopra Films recently announced that the restored version of the movie will hit theatres across India starting August 29, giving audiences a chance to experience the film on the big screen once again.

Among the most talked-about highlights of the evening was Vidya Balan’s spirited performance of the traditional Dhunuchi Naach on the red carpet. Accompanied by producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the actress showcased the vibrant Bengali ritual dance, performed during Durga Puja – especially on Bijoya Dashami – captivating the paparazzi present. A clip of the two engaging in playful banter and synchronizing their steps quickly went viral on Instagram.

For the occasion, Vidya Balan looked radiant in a classic red saree teamed with an embroidered red and golden blouse. Alongside her, notable names such as Dia Mirza, Shreya Ghoshal, Rekha, and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani also graced the screening, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

Directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar, ‘Parineeta’ first released in 2005 and featured Raima Sen, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, and Dia Mirza in key supporting roles. The film is a Hindi adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1914 Bengali novella of the same name, and is cherished for its portrayal of a delicate love story set against early 20th-century Bengal.

The narrative revolves around Shekhar and Lalita’s bond that blossoms from childhood into romance, tested by class divides, societal expectations, and heart-breaking misunderstandings.

Beyond its heartfelt storytelling, ‘Parineeta’ continues to resonate with audiences for its timeless soundtrack, which includes evergreen songs like ‘Piyu Bole’, ‘Kasto Mazza’, and ‘Kaisi Paheli Zindagani’.

Meanwhile, Vidya Balan was last seen in the 2024 horror comedy film ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’.
