Vishal Bhardwaj's Big Statement On Why He Thought 'Kaminey' Wouldn't Work

Shahid Kapoor was seen in a double role in ‘Kaminey’, which is considered one of the actor’s best films in his elaborate body of work. But did you know that not all was well while working on the film? Yes, you read that right. In a recent interview, Vishal Bhardwaj revealed that he was sceptical about the potential of the movie.
In the interview, the filmmaker discussed his ability to gauge a project’s success during its creation. However, he admitted that his prediction went awry with ‘Kaminey’ due to conflicts on set.
During his interview on the YouTube channel Unfiltered by Samdish, when Vishal Bhardwaj was asked if he can intuit a project’s success during filming, he responded, “Haan while making a film, you get to know. But one or two times I was wrong, when I thought the film won’t but it worked. This was the case with Kaminey.”
He added, “While making the film, I was feeling like how will we do this. There was so much conflict between the Director of Photography (DOP) and the cast, between the DOP and the production and between the production designer and the production. It was chaos of some another level. Every day after reaching the set for an hour and a half, I had to see what is the new problem of this day.”
‘Kaminey’, written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, featured Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Amole Gupte in the lead roles.
Set against the backdrop of the Mumbai underworld, the film explored the rivalry between twin brothers, one with a lisp and the other with a stutter. The movie received critical acclaim and was also a box office hit.
After ‘Kaminey’, Vishal Bhardwaj went on to collaborate with Shahid Kapoor in the 2014 release ‘Haider’ and the 2017 film ‘Rangoon’. Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra reunited with Vishal Bhardwaj for ‘7 Khoon Maaf’.
Vishal Bhardwaj’s most recent film ‘Khufiya’ was released on Netflix and starred Tabu, Ali Fazal, and Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead roles. The film was adapted from Amar Bhushan’s espionage novel, ‘Escape To Nowhere’.
