Watch: Vicky Kaushal Draws Criticism For “Wife Jokes” , Fans Say It Feels “Outdated And Cringe”
Vicky Kaushal faced backlash online after a viral wedding video of his “wife jokes” sparked criticism, putting his “green flag husband” image under scrutiny
In the glitzy world of Bollywood, few couples are as universally adored as Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif. Since their fairytale wedding in 2021, Vicky has often been hailed by netizens as the "Internet’s Best Husband," frequently winning hearts with his public displays of affection and respectful mentions of his wife. However, that "Green Flag" reputation is currently facing its toughest test yet. The ‘Sam Bahadur’ actor is facing significant heat online after a video of him making "wife jokes" at a recent wedding surfaced on social media, leaving many fans feeling disappointed.

In a bid to energize the crowd, he asked the father to get the groom to deliver his iconic "How’s the josh?" line from ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’. While the crowd enthusiastically roared back with "High, sir!", it was Vicky’s subsequent quip that touched a nerve.

Addressing the bachelors and married men in the room, Vicky remarked, “Maine yeh dekha hai ki bachelors ka josh hamesha high rehta hai. Hum shaadi-shuda waalon ka josh saal dar saal girta rehta hai. Par tension lene ki baat nahi hai, 4 din mein josh kam nahi hota.”
While the wedding guests laughed, the internet was far less amused. As the clip made its way to the popular subreddit BollyBlindsNGossip, users were quick to call out the actor for relying on what they described as "outdated" and "misogynistic" humour.
One viral comment read, "We're seriously STILL making misogynistic 'marriage' jokes in 2026? Should've left these on Comedy Nights with Kapil in 2016."
The disappointment stemmed largely from the contrast between Vicky's public persona and these remarks. Another user expressed their frustration, stating, "I don't like it when men make fun of their marriage in public. It indirectly insults their wife, and it's not funny. It reflects problems beneath the surface."
Some even went as far as to label the actor a "red flag," with one disillusioned fan commenting, "Ew, so disgusted with him right now. Guess it's time to stop believing he's a good husband after all."
The backlash highlights a shifting cultural landscape where the "tired husband" trope – long a staple of Indian stand-up and cinema – is increasingly viewed as "cringe" by younger generations. Many pointed out that they expected more from Vicky Kaushal, who has built a brand on being a modern, supportive partner.
Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif’s relationship has been a fan-favourite since the actor’s cheeky "Mujhse shaadi karogi?" proposal at an award show years ago. After a private courtship, they tied the knot on December 9, 2021, in a stunning ceremony in Udaipur. The couple recently reached a new milestone in their personal lives, welcoming their son, Vihaan Kaushal, in November 2025.
Neither Vicky nor Katrina has officially commented on the social media storm yet, but the "josh" among his fanbase has certainly taken a temporary dip.
