Sunny Deol's much-awaited period drama 'Batwara 1947', produced by Aamir Khan, has reportedly been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Sunny Deol's much-awaited period drama 'Batwara 1947' has reportedly been certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ahead of its theatrical debut. According to a report by news agency ANI, citing sources, the CBFC has granted the Rajkumar Santoshi directorial certification without asking for a single cut. With the certification process now reportedly complete, the historical drama remains on course for its scheduled release in cinemas on August 14, coinciding with Partition Day.
Set against the backdrop of India's Partition in 1947, 'Batwara 1947' explores an emotionally charged story centred on a Muslim family that settles in Lahore after migrating during the upheaval. Their lives take an unexpected turn when they discover that the house they occupy is still home to an elderly Hindu woman who refuses to abandon the place, she has always called home.
Inspired by celebrated playwright Asghar Wajahat's acclaimed work 'Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai', the film examines the complexities of displacement, identity, and coexistence during one of the most turbulent periods in the subcontinent's history. At its heart, the narrative highlights how compassion and human connection can emerge even in times marked by division and loss.
Previously announced under the title 'Lahore 1947', the film features Sunny Deol as the head of the migrant family, while veteran actor Shabana Azmi essays the role of the resilient Hindu woman determined to stay in her ancestral home despite the changing political landscape.
The makers recently unveiled a fresh poster while confirming the film's release date. The artwork features an illuminated diya placed before an idol of Lord Krishna, with visuals reflecting the turmoil of the 1947 Partition in the background.
Sharing the poster on social media, the team captioned it, "When the world chose sides, HE chose dharma. Watch #Batwara1947 in cinemas this Partition Day, 14th August."
Produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, 'Batwara 1947' boasts an ensemble cast that includes Preity Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khhushi Hajare, and Kanikka Kapur alongside Sunny Deol and Shabana Azmi.
The film also marks Preity Zinta's return to the big screen after a gap of more than five years. Its music has been composed by AR Rahman, with lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar.
