Celebrated Indian filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali marked his 63rd birthday on February 24 amid swirling rumours about his health. The director, who is currently busy with the production of his upcoming film ‘Love & War’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, was recently the subject of reports claiming that he had suffered a heart attack and was rushed to hospital. However, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s family has now issued an official statement dismissing the rumours.

The note, which was shared on Bhansali Productions’ Instagram page, read, “Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali is doing absolutely fine. He has gone in for a routine medical check-up and there is no cause for concern.”

The statement further added, “We sincerely appreciate the love, care, and concern shown by everyone. Thank you for your continued support and warm wishes.”

Beyond the speculation, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s illustrious career continues to speak for itself. The filmmaker – who is also a producer, screenwriter, editor and music composer – has won multiple accolades, including seven National Film Awards. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2015.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali made his directorial debut with ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’ in 1996 before achieving major acclaim with ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ (1999) and ‘Devdas’ (2002). He won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi for ‘Black’ (2005). His subsequent films include ‘Saawariya’ (2007) and ‘Guzaarish’ (2010), with the latter marking his debut as a music composer.

He later delivered grand cinematic spectacles such as ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ (2013), ‘Bajirao Mastani’ (2015), ‘Padmaavat’ (2018) and ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ (2022). In 2024, Sanjay Leela Bhansali launched his own music label, Bhansali Music, and made his OTT directorial debut with the web series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’.

Most recently, he co-produced the romantic drama ‘Do Deewane Seher Mein’, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mrunal Thakur. The film also features Ila Arun, Joy Sengupta, Ayesha Raza, Viraj Gehlani, Sandeepa Dhar and Naveen Kaushik. Directed by Ravi Udyawar, the project is presented by Zee Studios in association with Bhansali Productions.

As rumours are put to rest, Bhansali continues to focus on his creative ventures, with ‘Love & War’ among the most anticipated releases on his slate.
