Acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, known for helming films like ‘Black’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and more, is currently winning a lot of praise for his web series debut ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’. The new Netflix series, starring Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Sharmin Segal and Richa Chadha, has received mixed reviews. However, the new Netflix show is enjoying amazing viewership numbers. Amid the show’s success, Sanjay Leela Bhansali spoke about Bollywood and revealed who he considers his only “friend” in the industry.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali named Bollywood superstar Salman Khan as his only “friend” in the Hindi film industry. For the unversed, the two had been involved in the making of ‘Inshallah’, but the project got shelved due to creative differences.

“The only person that I'm still friendly with is Salman Khan. Even if Inshallah didn't happen, he stands by me. He'll call me; he'll care for me. ‘Are you okay? Is there anything (you need)? You've goofed up, you messed up’. I enjoy his humour so much. It (phone call) comes once in three months, once in five months, but it comes because he doesn't care about my film,” Sanjay Leela Bhansali told Bollywood Hungama.

“He cares about me. ‘You, bro, you've done so many films with me, it doesn't matter. Are you okay?’ And that is what it is all about,” he added.

Speaking further, Sanjay Leela Bhansali said, “On work, we may have sparred, we may have not had our moment correct, and it didn’t fall into place. But after one month, he called me, and I called him, and we talked. So that is a friend. In that sense, I'm fortunate enough to have that friend who once in six months will speak and will exactly start from where we left.”

Speaking of ‘Inshallah’, the project was supposed to star Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles. However, the film got shelved in 2019.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is now gearing up for the shooting of his next film, titled ‘Love & War’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.

The film is slated to be released in cinemas in December 2025. The upcoming movie marks Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s second film with Ranbir Kapoor after ‘Saawariya’ and his second project with Alia Bhatt after ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’.

‘Love & War’ is Vicky Kaushal’s first project with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
