'Saiyaara', starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has created history by topping Netflix’s global non-English film list.

In its debut week on streaming, Mohit Suri’s much-loved film ‘Saiyaara’ has achieved a historic feat by becoming the most-watched non-English film globally on Netflix. The romantic drama has managed to surpass stiff competition, edging out the German erotic thriller ‘Fall For Me’ and Netflix’s Hindi original ‘Inspector Zende’ to claim the top spot. According to Netflix’s official databank Tudum, ‘Saiyaara’ currently ranks number 1 in the worldwide list of non-English films. It has clocked 3.7 million views and 9.3 million hours viewed within just its opening week.

By comparison, ‘Fall For Me’ holds second place with 6.5 million hours viewed, while Manoj Bajpayee’s ‘Inspector Zende’ is in third with 6.2 million hours. Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Kingdom’ is the only other Indian title in the top 10, sitting at the ninth spot with 2.5 million hours viewed.

To celebrate the achievement, Netflix India released a video message from Saiyaara’s lead pair, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Brimming with excitement, the two thanked audiences for their overwhelming support: “For giving Saiyaara all the love in the world, we love you forever and ever and ever. Saiyaara is trending globally on Netflix only because of you. Thank you for watching and re-watching, and re-watching.”

The film, which premiered on Netflix last Friday, reached the global number 1 position in just five days – an extraordinary leap. While trade experts had predicted a strong performance following its stellar box office run, few expected it to outperform other big-budget Indian titles on streaming. In fact, no recent Indian film had managed to break into Netflix’s global top 3, let alone dominate the chart.

At its core, ‘Saiyaara’ tells the emotional love story of a temperamental singer, played by Ahaan Panday, and a songwriter and journalist, essayed by Aneet Padda. Their bond is tested when she is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. The film also marks Mohit Suri’s return to the romantic musical genre after more than a decade, and the response has been extraordinary.

On the theatrical front, ‘Saiyaara’ grossed Rs 577 crore worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 and the highest-earning romantic drama in Indian cinema’s history.

Beyond its numbers, the film has also cemented Ahaan and Aneet’s place as overnight stars, particularly adored by younger audiences, while reaffirming Mohit Suri’s mastery of romance on screen.
