Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has sparked a debate online after he stated that Aneet Padda and Ahaan Panday's smash-hit 'Saiyaara' worked just due to "sheer luck." While speaking in an interview with the news agency ANI, Akshay said that the film's box office performance was largely driven by luck rather than elaborate promotional strategies. For the unversed, no one expected 'Saiyaara' to work at the box office last year but the film proved everyone wrong, collecting more than Rs 300 crore domestically and Rs 570 crore worldwide.

The film majorly struck a chord with the youth, and the project was praised for its music.

“If it is in the destiny of the film, it runs successfully one way or the other,” said Akshay. The Bollywood superstar then referred to a recent release featuring new faces but appeared to forget the names of Aneet Padda and Ahaan Panday, saying, “Recently, the film came out with the new boy and new girl, what was that film?”

When Ahmed Khan reminded him that the film was titled 'Saiyaara', Akshay said, "Yes, Saiyaara. I want to ask, what event did the film have? There was no event. It’s just that its songs worked, and the romance in the film worked. That caught on. The boy and the girl performed well, and they were lucky that the film took off."

Interestingly, Akshay had praised 'Saiyaara' last year. In an interview with Hindustan Times, he had welcomed the success of both Ahaan and Aneet.

Speaking of 'Saiyaara', the romantic film directed by Mohit Suri, released in theatres last year and went on to do business of more than Rs 300 crore in India. Mohit Suri brought his signature style of intense emotions, soulful music, and compelling storytelling to this project.

The film revolves around two young individuals whose lives become intertwined through unexpected circumstances. As their relationship blossoms, they are forced to confront personal struggles, difficult choices, and the realities that test the strength of their bond.

One of the biggest attractions of ‘Saaiyara’ was its music. The movie also served as a launchpad for its lead actors, making it a closely watched release among Bollywood fans and industry observers alike.

Coming back to Akshay, he is currently enjoying the success of his latest release, 'Welcome to the Jungle'. The Ahmed Khan directorial minted Rs 24.75 crore on Sunday, the third day of its release, taking the total nett collection to Rs 63.75 crore.

The film began its box office journey with Rs 19 crore, including Rs 3.75 crore from paid previews. 'Welcome 3' then earned Rs 20 crore on Saturday, the second day of its release.
