“She Needed...”: Sharmila Tagore Opens Up On Son Saif Ali Khan's Separation From Amrita Singh
Koffee With Karan 8: The latest episode of the show had actor Saif Ali Khan and his mother Sharmila Tagore as guests.

Karan Johar's long-running chat show 'Koffee With Karan 8' has been truly entertaining this season as the ace director-producer has managed to bring together some of the most sizzling and interesting pairs on the 'Koffee' couch. The latest episode of the show had Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and his mother and veteran actress Sharmila Tagore as guests. The duo narrated some never-heard-before tales from Saif Ali Khan's childhood, leaving the actor embarrassed. During a fun chat, Sharmila Tagore also talked about Saif's "bratty" teenage years.
Sharmila Tagore even addressed his first marriage with actress Amrita Singh. Saif also recalled his mother's heartbroken reaction to his wedding news.
Saif Ali Khan revealed that his mother was in Mumbai to meet him when he told her that he had gotten married to Amrita the previous day after she had just told him not to get hitched.
“A big tear fell out of her eye, and she started crying. She said, 'you've really hurt me'," said Saif Ali Khan.
Sharmila Tagore then talked about how it is a good thing to share "every aspect of your life" with your parents.
Saif Ali Khan candidly spoke about telling his mother about his decision to separate from his wife Amrita Singh. Sharmila Tagore then addressed the "not so harmonious time" that followed after the split.
“When you are together for such a long time and you have such lovely children, then no break up is easy. Then it is not a harmonious… I know it is difficult to have harmony at that stage, everybody is hurt… so that stage was not nice but I tried. But that's water under the bridge, she needed time to cool down," she said.
Sharmila Tagore added that it was not a happy time for the family as they lost not just Amrita but also her and Saif's kids, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan.
During the 'KWK' episode, Karan Johar also talked about how he wanted to cast Sharmila Tagore as Alia Bhatt's grandmother in 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'. For the unversed, the role was eventually played by Shabana Azmi.
Talking about Saif Ali Khan, he is currently married to Kareena Kapoor Khan, and the duo has two sons -- Taimur and Jeh.
On the other hand, Amrita Singh lives with her two children -- Sara and Ibrahim. While, Sharmila Tagore lives in Haryana at the Pataudi Palace.
