It’s Akshay Kumar Vs John Abraham On Independence Day. But What About ‘Pushpa 2’?
John Abraham’s ‘Vedaa’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Khel Khel Mein’ are set to release this Independence Day.
Over the years, many Bollywood stars and makers have aimed to have their films released on festivals. Several actors have also managed to slot their films for Eid, Diwali, Holi or Christmas or a national holiday release and received an overwhelming response by getting crowds in larger numbers. The Independence Day weekend is also considered to be one of the most sought after dates in the film calendar. And this year, the stakes were high as Rohit Shetty’s multi-starrer ‘Singham Again’ was supposed to clash with Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna’s ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’.
‘Singham Again’ was the first one to shift as the film, featuring Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Tiger Shroff, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Kapoor, took longer than expected. While the makers of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ haven’t officially changed the release date yet, several reports are suggesting that the movie stands postponed.
On Wednesday night, the new release date of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Khel Khel Mein’ was announced. T-Series wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “This Independence Day, step into a mad world of laughter, drama & loads of fun! Mark your calendars for August 15, 2024 when #KhelKhelMein hits the theatres.”

A few days ago, John Abraham had announced the new release date of his upcoming film ‘Vedaa’. He wrote on X, “This Independence Day, woh aa rahe hain… Insaaf ki jung ladne! #Vedaa releasing in cinemas on 15th August.”

These announcements from Akshay Kumar and John Abraham confirm their box office clash on August 15, 2024. Interestingly, this will be the third time that Akshay and John's films clash at the box office on Independence Day.
Back in 2018, Akshay Kumar's ‘Gold’ and John Abraham's ‘Satyameva Jayate’ were released in cinemas on Independence Day. A year later, in 2019, Akshay’s ‘Mission Mangal’ and John’s ‘Batla House’ clashed at the box office.
Written and directed by Mudassar Aziz, ‘Khel Khel Mein’ is reportedly a story of friends who meet each other after a long time and find themselves in hilarious chaos. It also stars Fardeen Khan, Vaani Kapoor, Amy Virk, Aditya Seal and Pragya Jaiswal.
Meanwhile, ‘Vedaa’ is directed by Nikkhil Advani and marks his fifth collaboration with John after ‘Salaam-E-Ishq’, ‘Batla House’, ‘Satyameva Jayate’, and ‘Satyameva Jayate 2’.
While the first two films were directed by Nikkhil Advani, he produced the ‘Satyameva Jayate’ movie series and Milap Zaveri donned the director's hat.
The action thriller also features Sharvari Wagh, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Abhishek Banerjee in key roles.
