Watch: Aamir Khan Gets Emotional At Son Junaid’s ‘Ek Din’ Event, Crowns Sai Pallavi As India’s Best Actress
Aamir Khan got emotional at ‘Ek Din’ event as he watched son Junaid shine and heaped praise on Sai Pallavi’s Bollywood debut.
The atmosphere was thick with emotion at the recent ‘Ek Din Ki Mehfil’, a special musical event held in Mumbai to celebrate the upcoming release of ‘Ek Din’. The spotlight, however, shifted momentarily from the young leads to a visibly moved Aamir Khan. The superstar, who is backing the film under Aamir Khan Productions, couldn't hold back his tears as he watched performances and snippets from the romantic drama, which stars his son Junaid Khan and the powerhouse performer Sai Pallavi.
Several videos from the event have since gone viral, capturing a rare, vulnerable side of the ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ of Bollywood. In one widely shared clip, Aamir is seen wiping his eyes with his T-shirt, clearly overwhelmed by the content on screen. Seated between Junaid and Sai Pallavi, the actor was seen being comforted by both as he struggled to compose himself.

While Aamir is known for his emotional sensitivity towards cinema, this particular occasion carried the weight of a father watching his son’s growth in the industry. Later, while addressing the audience, Aamir took the stage to sing the title track of the film, further adding to the evening's sentimental value.
Aamir did not hold back when it came to praising his leading lady. Sai Pallavi, who is making her highly anticipated Bollywood debut with ‘Ek Din’, received what might be the highest compliment of her career so far. “Sai has done such an amazing job; you are going to be blown away. For me, Sai is the best actress we have in our country today,” Aamir told the gathering.
The Indian actress, known for her stellar work in South Indian cinema, was seen smiling and graciously thanking the veteran actor for his words. Her entry into Hindi cinema has been a point of discussion for months, and Aamir’s endorsement has only heightened the expectations for her performance.
When it came to his son, Aamir Khan maintained a lighter, more humorous tone. Junaid Khan, who previously appeared in ‘Loveyapa’, is looking to make a significant mark with this theatrical release. “Junaid ne bhi thik thak kiya hai. He is my son, so I can't say much,” Aamir joked, drawing laughter from the crowd. He quickly added that the entire cast had delivered impressive performances and expressed his happiness for the team’s hard work.
Aamir Khan just said it straight at the Ek Din promotion event: "Sai is the best actress we have in our country.”

Directed by debutant Sunil Pandey – a long-time associate of Aamir who worked on ‘Delhi Belly’ and ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ – ‘Ek Din’ is a romantic drama with a unique premise. It is an official remake of the 2016 Thai hit ‘One Day’. The story follows an introverted, shy office worker (Junaid) who harbours secret feelings for his colleague (Sai).
The narrative takes a dramatic turn in Japan when Sai’s character meets with an accident and suffers from Transient Global Amnesia (TGA). In this state, she only remembers Junaid’s character, who saved her life, allowing him the chance to be with her for just one day.
The film also marks a significant professional reunion between Aamir Khan and filmmaker Mansoor Khan, who are co-producing the project alongside Aparna Purohit. The duo famously collaborated on cult classics like ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ and ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’, making their return to the romance genre a nostalgic event for fans.
Aamir Khan also addressed the film’s unusual marketing strategy, specifically the decision to open advance bookings 39 days before the release. He explained that a film like ‘Ek Din’ requires time to build traction and gain word-of-mouth momentum, and starting early allows the audience to engage with the story well in advance.
‘Ek Din’ is scheduled to hit theatres on May 1, 2026. With the backing of Aamir Khan and a promise of a magical love story, it remains to be seen if this remake can capture the hearts of the Indian audience.
