October 2 is coming, and Vijay Salgaonkar probably remembers exactly where he was. Or, more accurately, he remembers exactly where he persuaded everyone else he was. Few dates in Hindi cinema have been repeated as often as the one at the centre of Drishyam’s brilliantly constructed alibi. Now Ajay Devgn’s Vijay is returning to cinemas on that very day for ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’, the third and planned final film in his Hindi story. There is a new investigator to outwit, an old wound that Tabu’s Meera Deshmukh has no intention of letting heal, and even a pav bhaji promotion for viewers who know the lore.

Why Is ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ Releasing On October 2?
The date is the franchise’s most famous piece of misdirection. In the 2015 film, Vijay’s daughter Anju accidentally kills Sam, the son of police officer Meera Deshmukh, after he blackmails her. To protect his family, Vijay teaches them a story: they went to Panaji on October 2 for a Swami Chinmayananda satsang, ate pav bhaji, watched a film, stayed overnight and returned on October 3. He backs the invented timeline with tickets, receipts and people who remember seeing him. The trip’s dates are the lie; the apparently mundane details make it convincing. Every Gandhi Jayanti since has brought fresh variations of the “October 2 ko kya hua tha?” joke.
Releasing the finale on Friday, October 2, 2026, turns that audience in-joke into an opening-day invitation. The makers leaned into it when announcing the date: “October 2 yaad hai na?” This time, viewers really can say they went to the cinema on October 2.
The Pav Bhaji Connection Is Back Too
Vijay’s restaurant order has travelled from a piece of evidence to a cinema snack. PVR INOX announced that the first 500 eligible customers who book at least four ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ tickets in one transaction through its app or website will receive a complimentary pav bhaji coupon. It is redeemable on October 2 at selected PVR INOX properties in Mumbai and Delhi-NCR. The offer is limited, so it is a promotional treat rather than a free meal with every ticket.
It is an especially clever callback because Vijay’s alibi was always a family operation – and the offer, too, requires viewers to arrive as a group of four. One plate for four people may not be as airtight as Vijay’s plan, but the marketing connection certainly is.
Why Is ‘Drishyam 3’ Called ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’?
The official title makes a promise about the Hindi films: this is intended to close Vijay Salgaonkar’s story. Writer-director Abhishek Pathak has been unusually emphatic about it. Asked about a fourth Hindi film, he said the chances were “zero” and described the third as the closure he wants for these characters. That does not mean the entire ‘Drishyam’ universe ends here. The Malayalam series, which follows Mohanlal’s Georgekutty, is on its own path and has announced a fourth installment.
Is It A Remake Of Mohanlal’s Malayalam ‘Drishyam 3’?
No. The Hindi ‘Drishyam’ (2015) and ‘Drishyam 2’ (2022) adapted the Malayalam films, but the third part breaks that pattern. Jeethu Joseph’s Malayalam ‘Drishyam 3’, starring Mohanlal, reached theatres on May 21, 2026. Abhishek Pathak says the two third-film scripts were developed independently; he and Joseph read each other’s drafts later. He characterises the Malayalam story as more of an emotional family drama and the Hindi film as a family thriller. So, knowing where Georgekutty’s story goes does not tell you how Vijay’s ends.
What Is ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ About?
Vijay got his family through two investigations by staying several moves ahead. The trailer, released on September 9, suggests the third test may be harder to script. Meera declares that she wants revenge rather than justice, while Jaideep Ahlawat’s Crime Branch officer Rajveer Singh Tomar joins the pursuit of the Salgaonkars. Prakash Raj appears as a lawyer who understands that underestimating Vijay would be a mistake. At home, Vijay warns his family that what comes next may be decided by destiny rather than clever planning.
That is the setup, not a confirmed ending. The trailer does not establish whether the old alibi finally collapses, whether Vijay confesses, or what happens to his family. Guessing has always been half the fun of ‘Drishyam’; the other half is discovering how many guesses Vijay anticipated.
Who Is Returning?
Ajay Devgn returns as Vijay, with Shriya Saran as his wife Nandini and Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav as daughters Anju and Anu. Tabu is back as Meera, the mother whose search for Sam has haunted the family since the first film. Rajat Kapoor returns as Meera’s husband Mahesh, and Kamlesh Sawant is also part of the returning ensemble. The story still has its two families staring at the same event from opposite sides: one has spent years hiding it, the other has spent years seeking an answer.
Who Are The New Cast Members?
Jaideep Ahlawat enters as Rajveer Singh Tomar, a Crime Branch officer who presents Vijay with a fresh opponent. Prakash Raj joins as a lawyer, bringing another sharp mind into a story already crowded with people trying to read Vijay’s. Saurabh Shukla is also listed among the new additions, though details of his role have not been disclosed. That leaves one question for the film to answer: who, if anyone, can catch a man who builds his defence before the accusation arrives?
Why Isn’t Akshaye Khanna In ‘Drishyam 3’?
Akshaye Khanna played IG Tarun Ahlawat in ‘Drishyam 2’, but he left the third film shortly before filming. Abhishek Pathak had revealed that the team was about a week from shooting Akshaye’s scenes with Ajay when it had to act fast: he rewrote part of the script and brought Jaideep aboard within days. Crucially, Jaideep is playing a newly written character, not Tarun with a new face or simply another actor with the surname Ahlawat.
Producer Kumar Mangat Pathak publicly alleged disagreements over Akshaye’s fee and his look for the role. Those were the producer’s claims; Akshaye has not publicly given a detailed account of his departure. What audiences will see is the creative consequence of the switch: a different adversary arrives for the final round.
Who Directed And Wrote It?
Abhishek Pathak, who directed ‘Drishyam 2’, helmed the finale and wrote it with Aamil Keeyan Khan and Parveez Shaikh. The first Hindi film was directed by the late Nishikant Kamat. Abhishek Pathak says the team spent about two of the four years since ‘Drishyam 2’ working on the writing. For a franchise in which one careless detail can undo an elaborate plan, taking time over the script seems particularly appropriate.
How Did Drishyam And Drishyam 2 Perform At The Box Office?
‘Drishyam’ opened on July 31, 2015, and, according to Sacnilk, made Rs 67.14 crore net in India and Rs 110.40 crore worldwide on its standard theatrical tally. The follow-up arrived on November 18, 2022, and widened that footprint dramatically: ‘Drishyam 2’ collected Rs 239.67 crore net in India and Rs 342.31 crore worldwide, with Sacnilk classifying it as a blockbuster. The first film asked viewers to remember one date. The second showed just how long they had remembered it.
‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ Release Date
The Hindi film is scheduled to release in cinemas on Friday, October 2, 2026. It is Gandhi Jayanti, the date Vijay made unforgettable, and the day audiences finally get to find out whether he has one last plan. The film has received a U/A 16+ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification without a single cut or audio-visual modification. Its certified runtime is 150 minutes, or two hours and 30 minutes.
