'Heeramandi' Trailer: Women Power On Show As Sanjay Leela Bhansali Promises Big Screen Grandeur In OTT Debut

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known to portray grandeur with ease on the big screen. However, the celebrated filmmaker known for movies like 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', 'Bajirao Mastani', and 'Padmaavat', is taking a new challenge as he is set to make his OTT series debut. The director's debut series 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar' will be releasing on Netflix on May 1, and in the latest entertainment news, the makers have unveiled the trailer for the series.
For the unversed, the new Hindi web series stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chaddha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal, and Fardeen Khan among others.
In the new Hindi movie trailer, women take centrestage and show their power to the entire world. Fardeen Khan also makes an appearance in the trailer as he makes his acting comeback after a 14-year hiatus.
The web series is based on the courtesans of Lahore and the life of red-light district in undivided India. The series promises to be an epic tale of love, power, revenge and freedom.

The official synopsis of the series reads, “In the midst of a power struggle in Heeramandi, a young heir caught in the crossfire chooses love over succession, disrupting the status quo. Set in pre-independent India against a burgeoning freedom movement, the final thread holding the art of tawaifs (courtesans) is put to the test.”

Set in the era of India's struggle for independence in the 1940s, this Netflix series will explore the cultural nuances of Heeramandi, a red-light district in Lahore known for its courtesans and their clientele. The show’s music is helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
