Celebrities have given their take on the ongoing diplomatic row between India and Maldives.

Bollywood celebrities such as Ranveer Singh, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Shraddha Kapoor have extended their support towards promoting tourism in India. For the unversed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promoted the Lakshadweep islands, by sharing his pictures from his recent visit. On January 4, PM Modi shared pictures on X (formerly Twitter) from his visit to the islands.

He also wrote how he was "still in awe" of the "stunning beauty" and the "incredible warmth" of its people. However, a media war between Maldivian politicians, government officials and Indian social media users broke out after PM Modi's visit.

Akshay Kumar then came up with a strong social media post, for the public figure of Maldives for passing "hateful and racist" comments on Indians.

“Came across comments from prominent public figures from Maldives passing hateful and racist comments on Indians. Surprised that they are doing this to a country that sends them the maximum number of tourists. We are good to our neighbors but why should we tolerate such unprovoked hate? I’ve visited the Maldives many times and always praised it, but dignity first. Let us decide to #ExploreIndianIslands and support our own tourism,” he tweeted.

On Sunday, Salman Khan said it was "so cool" to see Prime Minister Modi in Lakshadweep.

“It is so cool to see our Hon PM Narendrabhai Modi at the beautiful clean n stunning beaches of Lakshadweep, and the best part is that yeh hamare India mein hain,” the Tiger 3 star wrote on X.

Taking to X, Ranveer Singh wrote, "This year let’s make 2024 about exploring India and experiencing our culture. There is so much to see and explore across the beaches and the beauty of our country. Chalo India let’s #exploreindianislands. Chalo bharat dekhe."
