Vijay Sethupathi's 'Maharaja' has become the most-viewed Indian film of 2024 on Netflix.
'Maharaja', starring Vijay Sethupathi and Anurag Kashyap, released in cinemas earlier this year. But the new Tamil movie continues to trend big time on social media, as audiences continue to express over the climax of the movie. In the latest entertainment news, 'Maharaja' directed by Nithilan Swaminathan has become the most-viewed Indian film of 2024 on Netflix. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Maharaja' registered 1.3 million views in its 6th week, pushing its total viewership to 18.6 million on Netflix.
As a result, 'Maharaja' has now beaten 'Crew', starring Tabu, Kriti Sanon, and Kareena Kapoor, to become the most-viewed Indian film on Netflix. For the unversed, 'Crew' had generated 17.9 million views during its stay in the top 10 movie chart on Netflix.
Earlier, Maharaja had one of the biggest opening weekends for an Indian movie of 2024 on Netflix with 3.2 million, as per Sacnilk. The Tamil film defeated the likes of 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan' (2.9 million views) and 'Laapataa Ladies' (2.2 million views). It was also on par with Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan and Jyotika's 'Shaitaan' (3.2 million views), among others.
Currently, 'Maharaja' is the only South Indian movie in the top 10 most-watched Indian titles of 2024 on Netflix. It is also trending in the top 10 in 8 countries, including India, Thailand, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Oman, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
For the unversed, 'Maharaja' also stars Sachana Namidass, Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam, Abhirami Gopikumar, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Manikandan, Singampuli and Bharathiraja.
Director Nithilan Swaminathan co-wrote the script with Raam Murali. The film was released on June 14, 2024.
'Maharaja' which is Vijay Sethupathi's 50th film, premiered on Netflix on July 12. Ever since its premiere on OTT, fans have been going gaga over the climax of the film.
