Speaking about her experience of working with Nandamuri Balakrishna on ‘Daaku Maharaaj’ in an interaction with Radio Nasha, Urvashi Rautela dismissed the negative perception surrounding the actor and instead described him in affectionate terms. “He is very childlike and he is very fun-loving... and obviously he is a massive, massive superstar... super energetic he is,” she said.
The actress appeared completely at ease while discussing their equation and repeatedly emphasised the warmth and positivity she experienced around him during filming. Urvashi also addressed the chatter around their viral song and related backlash, saying, “I don’t know... sometimes it’s like one thing leads to another thing, then third thing, fourth thing... it was like that.”

Despite the criticism around their collaboration in ‘Daaku Maharaaj’, particularly the song ‘Dabidi Dibidi’ which drew backlash online, she maintained that her experience remained positive. “Working with him was definitely really, really amazing... and if you watch the film, do watch our action sequences also... that is really kick,” she added, calling herself “lucky” to work with him.
Balakrishna has frequently gone viral for his interactions with fans, including clips where he appears to react aggressively. Addressing this, Urvashi claimed she had witnessed such moments. “Yeah, many times I’ve seen... and it always used to be like... it used to be fun watching all this,” she said.
She further added that fans don’t necessarily take offence. “They also love it... they are also happy... you won’t imagine,” she said, adding an interesting anecdote, “Last year on Valentine’s Day, Balakrishna garu was the first person who wished me.”
Urvashi also addressed his perceived angry image, adding, “It’s not like that every time he is in that zone. He is very down to earth and he loves talking to people... especially with kids,” she shared.
The controversy surrounding Nandamuri Balakrishna intensified after clips from the sets and promotional events of ‘Daaku Maharaaj’ began circulating online. One particular moment from the film’s song ‘Dabidi Dibidi’ drew sharp criticism on social media, with some users questioning the choreography and Nandamuri Balakrishna’s on-screen interaction with Urvashi. Several old and new videos of the actor interacting with fans and colleagues also resurfaced online, leading to renewed scrutiny of his behaviour.
Interestingly, despite the backlash and memes surrounding ‘Dabidi Dibidi’, the song itself has generated massive traction online, becoming a viral talking point. While critics questioned certain aspects of the visuals and choreography, supporters argued that the song perfectly matched Balakrishna’s larger-than-life mass entertainer image – something his fanbase has celebrated for decades.
‘Daaku Maharaaj’ itself has remained a major discussion point among Telugu cinema audiences, largely due to Nandamuri Balakrishna’s star power and the film’s over-the-top action-commercial template. The actor, often affectionately referred to by fans as ‘Balayya’, commands an intensely loyal following, and controversies surrounding him frequently trigger polarised reactions online.
For Urvashi, though, the focus appears to remain firmly on the positive memories from the project. Rather than distancing herself from the controversy, the actress chose to openly defend her co-star and speak warmly about him, painting a far more personal and affectionate picture of the veteran actor than the one social media discourse has projected.
