RJ Balaji's 2026 directorial ‘Karuppu’, starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, has dominated the box office since its theatrical release on May 15. Produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, the fantasy action flick delivered Suriya a much-needed hit. Despite initially opening to mixed reviews and losing a valuable opening day because the production house had dues to clear, the film has roared past the Rs 300 crore mark globally. Now, just 28 days after its theatrical debut, the film is gearing up for its digital premiere, leaving the internet slightly confused but highly excited.

Fans can mark their calendars as ‘Karuppu’ will officially stream on Amazon Prime Video starting June 12. The streaming platform announced the news through a promotional campaign on social media, declaring, “God mode ON (fire emoji) #KaruppuOnPrime, June 12.”

While the theatrical run was primarily focused down South, audiences across the country can now enjoy the film in multiple languages. According to reports from the 123 Telugu website, the film will stream in Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and Telugu.

The sudden announcement of an OTT release in less than a month has sparked a massive debate online, especially since the film is still holding strong in its fourth week in theatres. Reacting to the news, one X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, “St , the movie running successfully in theatres then why they're releasing here.” Another fan commented, “Please extend 10 days and release theatrical it's doing good,” while a third pointed out, “It's very early...Theatrically #Karuppu is doing well.” The Hindi language strategy also raised eyebrows, with one user noting, “He did not release the film in Hindi, but doing it on OTT.” Meanwhile, on Instagram, fans are demanding more content, with comments like “Release uncut version plss” and “add extended version.”

Even after entering its fourth week, ‘Karuppu’ is demonstrating remarkable stamina. On Day 24, the film saw an approximate 19 per cent jump, collecting around Rs 1.75 crore in India net compared to Day 23's Rs 1.47 crore. According to Sacnilk, the film’s India net collection stands at approximately Rs 193.40 crore, with a domestic gross of Rs 223.54 crore. International markets added close to Rs 20 lakh on Day 24, pushing overseas gross collections to approximately Rs 80.60 crore. Its worldwide gross now stands at a staggering Rs 304.14 crore. Celebrating this monumental success, Suriya even gifted luxury cars to the ‘Karuppu’ crew.

The film features a massive ensemble cast including Balaji, Indrans, Anagha Maya Ravi, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, and Supreeth Reddy, with music composed by Sai Abhyankkar. The screenplay was co-written by Balaji, Rathna Kumar, Ashwin Ravichandran, Rahul Raj, TS Gopi Krishnan, and Karan Aravind Kumar. The story revolves around a guardian deity, Karuppusamy (Suriya), who takes human form after being challenged by Baby Kannan (Balaji), a corrupt lawyer. He is aided by another lawyer, Preethi (Trisha), in his quest to prove justice can be delivered fairly.

For fans of the newly established lore, ‘Karuppu’ ends with a tease for a sequel where the deity takes on the parliament after the judiciary. Though the filmmakers have yet to make an official announcement, the massive box office haul proves audience interest remains strong.
