Has Alia Bhatt Replaced Deepika Padukone In ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ Sequel? Makers Clear The Air
‘Kalki 2898 AD’ makers responded to rumours of Alia Bhatt replacing Deepika Padukone in the sequel.
Ever since ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of 2024, audiences have been eagerly awaiting its sequel. The sci-fi epic, headlined by Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, generated massive excitement for its next chapter. However, fans were dealt a major setback after reports confirmed that Deepika Padukone would no longer be a part of the franchise. The decision reportedly came after differences between the actress and the makers, bringing their collaboration to an end.

Since news of Deepika Padukone’s exit broke, speculation has been rife over who could step into her shoes in the ambitious franchise. The actress played a pivotal role in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, and with her character expected to have an even bigger arc in the sequel, fans have been eagerly debating which star could take over the high-profile part.
On Tuesday, social media was abuzz with reports claiming that Alia Bhatt had been roped in to replace Deepika Padukone in ‘Kalki 2’. The speculation quickly gained traction online, with several entertainment pages suggesting that Alia had already come on board for Nag Ashwin’s much-awaited sequel and that an official announcement was only a matter of time.

However, the makers have now dismissed the rumours, saying no development has happened in this regard. The Hindustan Times quoted a spokesperson, who revealed that the casting is due to be completed. “No shooting,” the spokesperson said, putting an end to rumours of the ‘Jigra’ actress shooting for the film.
When asked to confirm if she has been indeed roped in for the sequel, the said spokesperson said, “There’s no official clarity yet. Someone posted it on social media, and everyone else copied and pasted it as news. There’s definitely no clarity regarding her casting yet.”
Last year, a few days after Deepika parted ways with Sandeep Reddy Vanga over ‘Spirit’, the production house Vyjayanthi Movies announced that she will not be a part of the sequel to ‘Kalki 2898 AD’.
“This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like @Kalki2898AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future works,” they wrote, making the announcement in September 2025.
As per reports, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan have begun shooting for their parts while Prabhas is yet to join.
