'Jailer 2', starring Rajinikanth and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, finally hit the theatres on Thursday and as expected, the Tamil film has opened to a blockbuster response worldwide. The early reactions to the film are overwhelmingly positive and the project is poised for a sensational run at the box office. Several scenes from the Rajinikanth-starrer have been leaked online; however, nothing has created as much hysteria as the Hrithik Roshan cameo. Social media is in overdrive and can't keep calm on seeing Hrithik share the screen with Rajinikanth.

The Bollywood superstar's entry is entirely massy and in one frame, he can be seen keeping the sunglasses on the back of his shirt, just like Salman Khan's character Chulbul Pandey from 'Dabangg’.

For the longest time, it was rumoured that Shah Rukh Khan will make a cameo in 'Jailer 2'. But months before the release, it was confirmed that SRK won’t make a special appearance in the film, and instead Hrithik would be appearing for a cameo.

Speaking of 'Jailer 2', the advance bookings opened five days ahead of its release, with the film reportedly generating more than Rs 41 crore in opening-day pre-sales and selling over 1.8 million tickets. The sequel reunites several familiar faces from the original, including Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik. The cast has also expanded significantly, with S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan, Anna Rajan and Jatin Sarna joining the project.

Adding to the film’s star power are appearances by Malayalam cinema legend Mohanlal, Kannada star Shiva Rajkumar and Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff. Vijay Sethupathi also features in the project in a special cameo and his appearance too has been leaked online.

Produced by Sun Pictures, 'Jailer 2' represents a notable return to an established franchise for Rajinikanth. The actor has previously turned down opportunities to revisit some of his successful films, making his decision to return as Muthuvel Pandian particularly significant for fans.

Written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film hit theatres with expectations running high following the commercial success of its predecessor. The first ‘Jailer’ collected more than Rs 600 crore at the box office, establishing the franchise as a major force in Indian cinema.

As of 10.31 AM on Thursday morning, 'Jailer 2' had already earned Rs 13.13 crore in India, across all languages and the film is poised to earn more than Rs 40 crore on the opening day of its release in the country. Worldwide, the film is expected to gross more than Rs 100 crore, making it one of the biggest Indian openers of 2026.
