Featuring a young ensemble cast led by Arjun Ashokan, Roshan Mathew, Vishak Nair, and Ishan Shoukath, ‘Chatha Pacha: The Ring of Rowdies’ is a story that blends ambition, rivalry, and nostalgia with the raw spirit of local wrestling.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Kochi, the narrative follows three brothers who reunite to revive a childhood dream. Together, they establish a scrappy, amateur WWE-style costume wrestling ring in their town. What starts as a passionate venture quickly evolves into a chaotic landscape filled with fierce rivalries, emotional clashes, and dramatic heel turns, making the wrestling pit the true heart of the film.
Superstar Mammootty added massive star power to the project with his special cameo appearance as a character named Walter. Within the storyline, Walter's long-awaited return to Kochi triggers highly emotional reactions from the main protagonists.
While his cameo initially drew mixed responses from audiences, Mammootty addressed the feedback during the film's success meet. Breaking down the role, the veteran actor explained, “In the film, the way I understood the character Walter is that he is the childhood hero of these boys. At some point, he had left the town. All of them are from Kochi. After a long time, when he returns, it is mainly to surprise these boys.”
He further clarified that the disconnect some viewers felt was due to linguistic nuances, as Walter speaks an older dialect of Kochi slang. “Because of that, the present-day kids might feel a slight disconnect. But if you look at it that way, it will connect,” Mammootty added.
Despite receiving mixed reviews overall, ‘Chatha Pacha: The Ring of Rowdies’ has generated significant curiosity thanks to its unique premise and strong central performances. For fans looking to experience a heavy dose of WWE nostalgia, the wrestling drama is available to stream on Netflix right now.
During its box office run, ‘Chatha Pacha’ made over Rs 15 crore in India and Rs 33.22 crore worldwide.
