The phenomenon that is Rajinikanth is once again ruling the global box office. ‘Jailer 2’ is not just breaking records; it’s obliterating them. In a spectacular 11-day run, the action-packed sequel has raked in a phenomenal Rs 710.35 crore worldwide, officially claiming the title of the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time. The film has dethroned the previous record holder, ‘2.0’ – another Rajinikanth starrer, which also featured Akshay Kumar. ‘2.0’ had previously held the summit with an impressive lifetime collection of approximately Rs 691 crore.
‘Jailer 2’ soared past that milestone on Sunday (October 25), cementing Thalaivar's undisputed dominance over the box office.
Domestically, the momentum shows no signs of slowing down. On its 11th day in theatres, ‘Jailer 2’ added a massive Rs 25.70 crore in gross collections across India. This pushed its total India gross to a commanding Rs 466.85 crore, translating to a robust India nett collection of Rs 398.70 crore.
A closer look at the Sacnilk data reveals the sheer scale of this triumph across the nation. Unsurprisingly, Tamil Nadu leads the charge with an incredible Rs 182.25 crore in gross earnings over the first 11 days. The Telugu states (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) are significantly contributing with Rs 85.65 crore, proving Rajinikanth's massive pull across South India. Karnataka has brought in a strong Rs 80.40 crore, while Kerala stands at Rs 70.60 crore. Even in the other Indian markets, the film is performing exceptionally well, pulling in Rs 47.95 crore.
The pan-India success is further highlighted by the language-wise breakdown on Day 11. The core Tamil version predictably dominated, pulling in Rs 17.35 crore from 5,683 shows. However, the dubbed versions continue to pull serious weight – the Telugu version added Rs 4.50 crore across 1,860 shows, the Hindi version brought in a solid Rs 3.15 crore from 4,195 shows, and the Kannada version added another Rs 0.70 crore from 216 shows.
This multi-language appeal has been the driving force behind Jailer 2's record-breaking sprint. The film was already smashing records early on, becoming the fastest Tamil release to cross both the Rs 300 crore and Rs 400 crore marks globally – hitting those milestones in just three and four days, respectively.
Director Nelson Dilipkumar couldn't contain his excitement over the thunderous response. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he celebrated the frenzy: “Theatres are going bonkers! Thalaivar magic hits different. Thank you, dear audience, for the phenomenal love and reception for #Jailer2. Nothing beats seeing the audience celebrate it like this! Thank you all for the love and support. @rajinikanth sir @anirudhofficial @sunpictures.”
Bankrolled by the powerhouse Sun Pictures, ‘Jailer 2’ boasts a massive ensemble cast that rivals its box office numbers. Sharing the screen with Rajinikanth are heavyweights like Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, Rithvik, S. J. Suryah, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Mithun Chakraborty, Hrithik Roshan, Vijay Sethupathi, Jatin Sarna, Namo Narayana, Hakkim Shahjahan, and Kottayam Nazeer.
With Rs 710.35 crore already in the bag in under two weeks, the industry is buzzing with one big question: Will ‘Jailer 2’ become the first Tamil film to cross the mythical Rs 1,000 crore mark globally? Based on its current momentum, Thalaivar's magic might just make the impossible happen.
