Before Jeetu Bhaiya became a Netflix favourite and Dhruv and Kavya took their relationship global, finding your next favourite Indian show could be as simple as opening YouTube. An episode would land on a familiar channel, someone would send the link to a group chat, and suddenly everyone had opinions about a fictional couple’s argument or an aspirant’s heartbreak. These shows built their following through characters who felt recognisable: students, flatmates, siblings and people surviving their first jobs. Then came the streaming deals, returning seasons and platform logos.

The stories we discovered between YouTube recommendations had become attractions in their own right. Those moves took different forms. Some shows gained subscription-backed seasons on Netflix, Prime Video, SonyLIV or ZEE5; others continued on the free, ad-supported Amazon miniTV, which merged with MX Player to become Amazon MX Player in 2024.
The upgrade was not always a paywall or a demonstrably bigger budget. Often, it meant an established streaming home and another chance to develop characters audiences already loved. From household-name romances to regional favourites, here are the Indian shows whose journeys took them from free YouTube episodes to new seasons on OTT.

1. Little Things
Few shows illustrate this transition as neatly as ‘Little Things’. Dice Media’s Mumbai romance arrived on YouTube in October 2016, introducing Mithila Palkar as Kavya Kulkarni and creator-writer Dhruv Sehgal as Dhruv Vats. Its first season consists of just five episodes, but the relationship feels lived-in almost immediately. Food plans, lazy afternoons, work frustrations and small disagreements give this couple more personality than a grand romantic declaration ever could. Netflix picked up the show, with season two arriving on October 5, 2018.
Season three followed in November 2019, and the fourth and final season premiered on October 15, 2021. Across that journey, the series makes room for distance, changing careers and the awkward business of growing up together. Its appeal lies in how much it finds inside apparently uneventful days. You recognise the affection in an ordinary conversation, then realise that the conversation has quietly become about the future.
2. Kota Factory
‘Kota Factory’ began its free run on TVF’s YouTube channel and TVFPlay in April 2019. Mayur More plays Vaibhav, a teenager navigating Kota’s unforgiving IIT coaching ecosystem, alongside Ranjan Raj as Meena, Alam Khan as Uday and Jitendra Kumar as the reassuring Jeetu Bhaiya. Ahsaas Channa and Revathi Pillai complete much of the young ensemble. The black-and-white visuals make the show instantly identifiable, but the friendships are what make its competitive world bearable. Here, a bad test score can genuinely feel like the end of everything.
Netflix became its home for season two, released on September 24, 2021, and season three, released on June 20, 2024, with Tillotama Shome joining the cast. Jeetu Bhaiya’s appeal comes from taking students’ fears seriously, even when those fears look disproportionate to adults outside the coaching bubble. The later seasons also examine the burden of being everybody’s dependable mentor.
3. Sapne Vs Everyone
The YouTube-to-OTT story is still producing new examples. Written and directed by Ambrish Verma, TVF’s ‘Sapne Vs Everyone’ premiered on YouTube on December 8, 2023. Paramvir Singh Cheema plays aspiring actor Prashant, while Ambrish Verma plays Jimmy, a forceful salesman whose methods make ambition look considerably less noble. Vijayant Kohli is another key presence. The contrast between these men gives the drama its pull: one struggles to protect his principles while chasing a dream; the other treats obstacles as things to bulldoze.
Season two made the jump to Prime Video on May 1, 2026, bringing back the central actors and adding Abhishek Chauhan, Nidhi Shah and Khushali Kumar in pivotal roles. Prashant now confronts Mumbai’s film industry, while Jimmy’s struggle involves revenge and the real-estate business. The show’s attraction is its willingness to make the pursuit of success uncomfortable. Dreams cost people something here, and the bill does not arrive only in money.
4. Aspirants
‘Aspirants’ first arrived on TVF’s YouTube channel on April 7, 2021, turning Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar into the setting for a drama about UPSC preparation, friendship and the lives people postpone while chasing an examination. Naveen Kasturia’s Abhilash, Shivankit Singh Parihar’s Guri and Abhilash Thapliyal’s SK form its central trio, with Sunny Hinduja’s Sandeep Bhaiya and Namita Dubey’s Dhairya adding emotional weight. The exam is the immediate destination, but the relationships make the journey matter.
Prime Video released season two on October 25, 2023, and season three on March 13, 2026. The continuation moves beyond preparation to examine professional responsibility and the consequences of decisions made after securing the coveted job. The show found its audience in the anxiety of wanting something desperately; its OTT chapters ask what happens when that ambition finally comes with authority.
5. Permanent Roommates
Long before streaming services filled their menus with Indian relationship dramas, Mikesh and Tanya were trying to work out whether they should get married. ‘Permanent Roommates’ debuted on TVF’s YouTube channel in October 2014, with Sumeet Vyas and Nidhi Singh playing a couple whose three-year long-distance relationship suddenly becomes very immediate. Mikesh returns from the US with marriage in mind; Tanya has rather more questions. Deepak Kumar Mishra’s Purushottam adds a wonderfully eccentric presence to their world.
The second season arrived on TVFPlay in February 2016, while season three premiered on Prime Video on October 18, 2023. The new chapter follows conflicting plans about moving abroad, with Sheeba Chaddha among the supporting cast. Its endurance rests on the chemistry between its leads: Mikesh can be exasperating without becoming disposable, and Tanya’s doubts have their own logic. The platform changed after a lengthy gap, but the central question remained appealingly familiar: how do two people build one life when they do not want exactly the same things?
6. TVF Pitchers
‘Pitchers’ had an especially long road to its OTT comeback. Its first season launched on TVFPlay in June 2015 before reaching YouTube later that month. Naveen Kasturia, Arunabh Kumar, Jitendra Kumar and Abhay Mahajan play four friends trying to turn their start-up ambitions into an actual business. Maanvi Gagroo is also part of the original ensemble. The premise arrived with an irresistible invitation: what if you stopped complaining about your job and finally attempted the idea you kept talking about?
Season two finally premiered on ZEE5 on December 23, 2022, more than seven years later. Naveen Kasturia, Arunabh Kumar and Abhay Mahajan returned, while Ridhi Dogra and Sikandar Kher joined the ensemble; Jitendra Kumar did not return for this season. The continuation shifts attention towards running and growing the company, where funding, survival and leadership complicate the original excitement. Director Vaibhav Bundhoo also described the second season as a step up in both storytelling and visuals.
7. College Romance
‘College Romance’ debuted on The Timeliners’ YouTube channel in August 2018, building its campus comedy around dating disasters, friendship and the kind of conversations that rarely remain polite for long. Keshav Sadhna, Apoorva Arora, Manjot Singh, Gagan Arora and Shreya Mehta formed the original core cast. Gagan’s Bagga, in particular, gives the show a loud, uninhibited comic identity. These students make small misunderstandings feel momentous because, inside their college world, they usually are.
SonyLIV released season two in January 2021, season three in September 2022 and the fourth and final season on July 14, 2023. The ensemble evolved, with actors including Nupur Nagpal, Eklavey Kashyap and Jhanvi Rawat appearing in later chapters. Its appeal is the feeling of belonging to a slightly chaotic friend group: you can see trouble approaching before anyone involved notices it. By the final season, the prospect of leaving college gives all that banter a deadline. Eventually, even the most entertaining campus gang has to graduate.
8. FLAMES
‘FLAMES’ began on The Timeliners’ YouTube channel in January 2018, finding teenage romance in the decidedly unglamorous surroundings of a tuition centre. Ritvik Sahore plays Rajat opposite Tanya Maniktala’s Ishita, with Sunakshi Grover and Shivam Kakar as their friends Anusha and Pandu. Deepesh Sumitra Jagdish plays their teacher. The setting does much of the work: classes, academic pressure and stolen moments give first love an obstacle course that teenage viewers can immediately recognise.
Season two followed in October 2019 through TVFPlay and MX Player. Prime Video then released season three on October 28, 2022, and season four on December 21, 2023. The later episodes bring board examinations and future plans into the relationship, making growing up a complication rather than a tidy solution. Its warmth comes from remembering how much a glance or an unanswered message can matter at that age.
9. Cubicles
For viewers whose student days had already given way to employee IDs, ‘Cubicles’ offered another recognisable world. TVF launched it on YouTube and TVFPlay on December 10, 2019. Abhishek Chauhan plays Piyush Prajapati, a first-job newcomer discovering that office life involves far more than the tasks in a job description. Nidhi Bisht, Badri Chavan and Arnav Bhasin are among the principal actors. The comedy lives in awkward introductions, workplace friendships and the anxiety of trying to appear competent before you feel competent.
SonyLIV became its home from season two, released in January 2022. Season three followed in January 2024, and season four in December 2024. Piyush’s progression towards leadership allows the series to change the kind of problems he faces: being responsible for colleagues is rather different from becoming friends with them. Its appeal comes from giving ordinary employment the attention usually reserved for glamorous professions. A promotion, an uncomfortable meeting or uncertainty about the company’s future can provide plenty of drama when your livelihood is attached to it.
10. Girls Hostel
‘Girls Hostel’ arrived on Girliyapa’s YouTube channel in December 2018. Ahsaas Channa, Srishti Shrivastava, Parul Gulati and Simran Natekar play Richa, Jo, Zahira and Mili, students negotiating friendships and rivalries around a dental-college hostel. Overbearing parents, difficult wardens and battles within the hostel give the show its early comic energy. Crucially, the girls have distinct personalities and conflicting interests; sharing accommodation does not automatically turn them into an uncomplicated sisterhood.
The series continued on SonyLIV, with season two premiering on February 19, 2021, and season three on November 25, 2022. Later chapters introduce stronger questions about campus power and representation alongside the personal friction. Its strength is the way shared problems can force characters to reconsider one another. People who seem impossible to live with may also be the people you need when the institution stops listening.
11. Yeh Meri Family
‘Yeh Meri Family’ first premiered on YouTube and TVFPlay in July 2018, taking viewers into the Gupta household in 1998 Jaipur. Vishesh Bansal plays Harshu, with Mona Singh and Akarsh Khurana as his parents and Ahan Nirban and Ruhi Khan as his siblings. Its pleasures are wonderfully domestic: parental rules, sibling battles, summer holidays and the enormous injustices of being a child. The nostalgia works because the home feels inhabited, rather than arranged simply to display objects from the 1990s.
The franchise returned on Amazon miniTV on May 19, 2023, with a different family and cast. Juhi Parmar, Rajesh Kumar, Hetal Gada and Anngad Raaj play the Awasthis in a Lucknow-set 1990s story; they are not continuing Mona Singh’s original Gupta-family characters. This version continued through season three on April 4, 2024, and season four on August 16, 2024. What connects the chapters is the child’s-eye view of family life and the affectionate period setting.
12. The Aam Aadmi Family
The Sharmas made their YouTube debut on The Timeliners in November 2016. Brijendra Kala and Lubna Salim play the parents, alongside Chandan Anand, Gunjan Malhotra and Kamlesh Gill in the original cast. ‘The Aam Aadmi Family’ finds comedy in the negotiations of a middle-class household, where somebody always has an opinion and privacy is frequently aspirational. Its reach was already substantial before the OTT move: the second season was reported to have crossed 25 million YouTube views in 2017.
After seasons two and three in 2017 and 2019, the fourth season premiered on ZEE5 on November 24, 2023. The enduring attraction is the family dynamic rather than an elaborate premise. Parents and children can misunderstand each other, annoy each other and still remain deeply invested in each other’s lives. Kala and Salim give that familiarity a particularly sturdy centre.
13. Please Find Attached
With a title borrowed from the working day’s most familiar emails, ‘Please Find Attached’ began on Dice Media’s YouTube channel in September 2019. Ayush Mehra and Barkha Singh play Shaurya and Sanya, colleagues whose lives become increasingly intertwined when they share a home. The romance has a built-in complication: work does not disappear when these two leave the office. Its appeal comes from the chemistry between its leads and the gradual shift from everyday companionship towards something more personal.
A second YouTube season followed in 2020, before season three premiered exclusively on Amazon miniTV on August 24, 2022, with new episodes released weekly. Directed by Mandar Kurundkar, that chapter continues the couple’s attempts to negotiate romance and professional life. The move kept the show in free, ad-supported streaming rather than making it a Prime Video subscription original.
14. Adulting
‘Adulting’ launched on Dice Media’s YouTube channel in April 2018, with Aisha Ahmed as Nikhat and Yashaswini Dayama as Ray. Its two Mumbai flatmates are figuring out careers, relationships and the practical consequences of being responsible for themselves. Much of its charm comes from allowing friendship to carry the story. A roommate can become the person who witnesses every embarrassing misstep, receives every anxious confession and still has to discuss the household chores with you afterwards.
The second season arrived on YouTube in 2019. Season three moved to Amazon miniTV on November 12, 2021, as part of a content partnership between Amazon and Pocket Aces, the company behind Dice Media. It remained a free-to-watch continuation. The show’s title describes a process its characters never quite master, which is precisely the attraction. Independence is exciting until it involves work, money, emotional decisions and absolutely nobody arriving to sort everything out.
15. TVF Tripling
‘Tripling’ began its YouTube and TVFPlay journey in 2016, introducing Sumeet Vyas, Maanvi Gagroo and Amol Parashar as siblings Chandan, Chanchal and Chitvan. Their road trip becomes an opportunity to reopen old arguments and discover what adulthood has done to each of them. The casting gives the series its rhythm: Chandan’s discomfort, Chanchal’s forcefulness and Chitvan’s unpredictability make even a conversation in a car feel eventful. This is family bonding with plenty of unfinished business.
Its platform history involved several stops. Season two premiered on SonyLIV and TVFPlay on April 5, 2019; season three then arrived on ZEE5 on October 21, 2022. It was not a direct YouTube-to-ZEE5 transfer. Kumud Mishra and Shernaz Patel, as the siblings’ parents, become especially significant in the third season, which explores the family’s response to their decision to separate.
16. Humorously Yours
Vipul Goyal’s professional life provides the starting point for ‘Humorously Yours’, which launched on TVF’s YouTube channel and TVFPlay in December 2016. Goyal plays a fictionalised version of himself, with Rasika Dugal as his wife Kavya and Abhishek Banerjee as his friend Bhushi. The premise offers an enjoyable reversal: the man expected to make an audience laugh is often struggling to manage everything happening before and after the performance. Marriage, friendships and the business of securing work all compete for his attention.
Season two followed in June 2019, while the third season premiered on ZEE5 on December 22, 2023. Its appeal comes from treating comedy as both a talent and a job. A good set does not automatically produce a smoothly functioning life, and professional recognition can create fresh problems rather than remove the old ones. The OTT return gave viewers another chapter in that contradiction: Vipul may know how to deliver a punchline, but managing the circumstances around it remains a far less predictable skill.
17. Engineering Girls
‘Engineering Girls’ first appeared on The Timeliners’ YouTube channel in June 2018. Barkha Singh, Kritikka Avasthi and Sejal Kumar play Teja, Maggu and Sabu, three engineering students dealing with friendship, academic demands and hostel life. The female leads make it a useful companion to campus stories that usually centre on boys. These young women have ambitions and problems of their own, and the course they are studying does not reduce them to a single shared personality.
The first season subsequently reached Netflix, while a newly produced second season premiered on ZEE5 on August 27, 2021. The returning trio faces the pressures of the final phase of college, when future plans begin intruding on everyday fun. Its charm lies in the women’s rapport and the feeling that friendship provides a place to recover from academic and personal setbacks. The journey involved both licensing an existing season and producing a new one for another platform – two different ways a YouTube series could acquire a larger streaming life.
18. Geetha Subramanyam
Telugu series ‘Geetha Subramanyam’ began on Wirally Telugu’s YouTube channel in March 2017. Manoj Krishna Tanneru and Darshini Sekhar played its original couple, whose live-in relationship supplies a stream of disagreements, misunderstandings and affectionate friction. Produced by Tamada Media, the show found an early audience by recognising that a relationship can produce plenty of comedy without a spectacular plot twist. The first two episodes had already attracted more than 4.5 lakh views by the time an early cast interview appeared that month.
The franchise moved to aha with its 2020 version, starring Ram Karthik and Nakshatra. ‘Geetha Subramanyam 3’ followed on May 5, 2023, with Supraj Ranga and Abhignya Vuthaluru as the leads. These are new iterations with different actors, rather than an unchanged original pair continuing through every season. The later story places its couple in the same workplace, adding professional complications to their romantic ones.
19. Ammuchi
Tamil series ‘Ammuchi’ premiered on Nakkalites’ YouTube channel on April 12, 2019. Its opening episode sends Arun to his grandmother’s village, Kodangipalayam, when he would much rather holiday in Goa. Arun Kumar, Sassi Selvaraj, Chinnamani and Prasanna Balachandran are among the main performers. Village life, family relationships and the boys’ misadventures give it a distinctive comic world. The scale of its YouTube following is visible in that first episode alone, which has passed nine million views.
The second season, ‘Ammuchi 2’, premiered on aha on June 17, 2022, continuing the Nakkalites team’s village-set storytelling. Arun’s efforts to help his love interest create further problems, with Ammuchi remaining central to the family’s tangled affairs. Its attraction is the specificity of its people and setting: the village feels like somewhere with its own relationships, history and running disagreements.
20. Chikatgunde
Marathi series ‘Chikatgunde’ premiered on BhaDiPa’s YouTube channel on September 6, 2020, finding relationship comedy in a situation audiences knew rather too well: lockdown. Its four-part opening season explores couples navigating enforced togetherness, separation and conversations they can no longer conveniently avoid. Shruti Marathe, Sarang Sathaye, Swanandi Tikekar and Pushkaraj Chirputkar are among the principal actors. The appeal lies in that uncomfortable familiarity. Spending more time with someone you love sounds lovely – until you discover just how differently you handle boredom, intimacy and personal space.
The second season moved to Planet Marathi, premiering on April 14, 2023, with subsequent episodes released weekly. Directed by Gaurav Patki, it brought back familiar performers alongside an ensemble including Suhas Sirsat, Sneha Majgaonkar, Sushant Ghadge and Chaitanya Sharma. As lockdown restrictions ease, the characters’ relationships acquire fresh complications: being allowed outside does not automatically resolve everything brewing indoors. Its move demonstrates how a Marathi YouTube series could build enough audience interest to earn an OTT continuation while retaining its distinctive language, humour and relationship dynamics.
