Golden Globes 2023: Big Win For India As 'RRR' Bags Best Original Song Award for 'Naatu Naatu'

SS Rajamouli’s 'RRR' bagged its first Golden Globes 2023 award for its popular song 'Naatu Naatu' in the 'Original Song' category.

Big win for India! SS Rajamouli 2022 directorial 'RRR', featuring Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the lead roles, has bagged its first Golden Globe. Composer MM Keeravani, along with singers Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, won the Golden Globe for 'Best Original Song', for the track 'Naatu Naatu'. The epic period action film has also been nominated in the Best Non-English Language Film category at the 80th Golden Globe Awards.

'Wednesday' star Jenna Ortega presented the Golden Globe award to MM Keeravani for 'Naatu Naatu'.

'Naatu Naatu', a dance number featuring stars Jr NTR and Ram Charan, was competing against Taylor Swift’s 'Carolina' from 'Where the Crawdads Sing', 'Ciao Papa' from 'Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio', Lady Gaga’s 'Hold My Hand' from 'Top Gun: Maverick', and 'Lift Me Up' from 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever', performed by Rihanna.

India previously scripted history in the Best Original Score category over a decade ago, when AR Rahman won for Danny Boyle’s 'Slumdog Millionaire'. Rahman was also nominated in the same category for Boyle’s follow-up, '127 Hours'. 

‘RRR’, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the lead, is competing with Korean romantic mystery ‘Decision To Leave’, German anti-war drama ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’, Argentine historical drama ‘Argentina, 1985’, and French-Dutch coming-of-age drama ‘Close’ in the Best Picture Non-English category.

The Golden Globes 2023 is being held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. The host for the ceremony is Jerrod Charmichael. 

The nominations for the ceremony were announced on December 12, 2022.
