Nick Jonas Reveals SHOCKING Details Of Daughter Malti's Premature Birth
Nick Jonas opened up about daughter Malti Marie’s fragile birth and NICU journey, calling her survival and strength nothing short of magical.
American singer Nick Jonas, who is married to actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas, has opened up about an emotionally difficult phase following the birth of their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas. Speaking on the Jay Shetty Podcast, Nick Jonas spoke candidly about how Malti was born underweight and extremely fragile, admitting that he still gets “awestruck” that he now gets “to experience her magic”. The singer became visibly emotional as he reflected on the journey.
Nick Jonas recalled the intense circumstances surrounding Malti’s birth, revealing details he said he had never spoken about publicly before. “She came into the world under very intense circumstances, which I’ve never really talked about,” he shared.
“We were expecting her to arrive in April, the year she was born. Then we get a call that it’s going to be sooner,” Nick further said.
He went on to describe the moment they reached the hospital, saying, “We got to the hospital and came out 1 pound, 11 ounces and purple basically.”
Nick Jonas added that the NICU nurses immediately resuscitated Malti Marie and began round-the-clock care to stabilise her.
The singer also spoke about the exhausting months that followed, as he and Priyanka remained by their daughter’s side throughout her stay in the NICU. “It was Covid-19 time, and so my wife and I basically did 12-hour shifts at the hospital for 3.5 months,” Nick said.
He described how the experience left a lasting impression on him, adding, “I can still smell it; there are always visceral things. It was both comforting and frightening to be there every day and to see other families going through a similar situation.”
Nick Jonas further revealed that Malti showed immense strength during her early days. “She fought every day for 3.5 months and slowly started to gain some weight,” he shared. After undergoing six blood transfusions, her condition steadily improved. “After six blood transfusions, she was doing great. We got to take her home after 3.5 months,” he said, clearly emotional while recounting the experience.
