International Emmy Awards 2023: Vir Das Wins For Comedy; Shefali Shah And Jim Sarbh Miss Out

Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das has made India proud as he won an International Emmy Award for Comedy on Tuesday. Vir Das won the honour for his latest stand-up special titled 'Landing'. For the unversed, Vir Das shared the award with the Irish comedy series 'Derry Girls'. This was Vir Das' second International Emmy nomination. 

Vir Das and Derry Girls were nominated alongside France’s Le Flambeau annd Argentina’s El Encargado.

Sharing a photo with his Emmy Award, Vir Das wrote on Instagram, "For India. For Indian comedy. Every breath, every word. Thank you to the @iemmys for this incredible honour."

For the uninitiated, Vir Das has appeared in more than 100 stand-up shows, and he boasts of multiple stand-up specials. He has also acted in several films, including 'Delhi Belly' and 'Go Goa Gone'.

Indian actress Shefali Shah was not able to win an Emmy in the  Best Performance by an Actress category. Shefali, who was nominated for her role in Netflix series 'Delhi Crime', lost out to Mexican actor Karla Souza, who won the award for her performance in the series La Caida.

Besides Shefali and Karla, the other nominees in the category were Connie Nielsen for the Danish series 'Drommeren' and Billie Piper for the British show 'I Hate Suzie Too'.

Actor Jim Sarbh was also not able to bring the Emmy award home, as he lost to Martin Freeman for his performance in 'The Responder'.

For the unversed, Jim Sarbh was nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor category at the International Emmy Awards for his role of Homi J Bhabha in the SonyLiv series 'Rocket Boys'.

The International Emmy Awards 2023 took place in New York City, and at the ceremony, producer Ektaa Kapoor was honoured with the prestigious International Emmy Directorate Award.
