Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has confirmed that he would be returning as Luke Hobbs in the new 'Fast and Furious' standalone film.

Dwayne Johnson would be returning as Luke Hobbs in new 'Fast and Furious' standalone film.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson on Friday confirmed that he would be returning to the 'Fast and Furious' franchise and he would be reprising his role as Luke Hobbs. The actor made the announcement on Twitter. For the unversed, Dwayne Johnson had featured in a mid-credits scene in the recently-released 'Fast X' starring Vin Diesel, Jason Momoa and John Cena. 

Posting a video on Twitter, the actor wrote: "Hope you’ve got your funderwear on… HOBBS IS BACK. And he just got lei’d. Luke Hobbs will be returning to the Fast & Furious franchise. Your reactions around the world to Hobbs’ return in Fast X have blown us away. The next Fast & Furious film you’ll see the legendary lawman in will be the HOBBS movie that will serve as a fresh, new chapter & set up for FASTX: Part II. Last summer Vin and I put all the past behind us. We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve - and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love."

Dwayne Johnson will be featuring in a new standalone film in the franchise. Universal Pictures announced the project. As per Variety, the new Hollywood movie will  bridge between the events of the just-released 'Fast X' and the upcoming 'Fast X: Part II'.

'Fast X' recently opened at No.1 spot around the world in May with a opening of USD 320 million. Hence, it also became the second-biggest global opening of 2023.

'Fast X' opened to negative reviews from all corners but the franchise has managed to maintain its fandom among the audience.

Even in India, the movie collected more than Rs 100 crore, and it is the first Hollywood film of 2023 to collect this much amount in the country. 

'Fast X: Part II' is expected to release in theatres in 2025.
