Will Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawan' Stop 'Gadar 2' From Breaking Record Of 'Pathaan'?
'Gadar 2' is inching closer to break the record of 'Pathaan' and become the highest-grossing Bollywood film ever.
It looks like Shah Rukh Khan is coming to his own rescue at the box office. Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer 'Gadar 2' just needs Rs 20 crore more to break the record of 'Pathaan' and become the highest-grossing Hindi film in India. However, another SRK starrer in the form of 'Jawan' may just help 'Pathaan' keep its record. For the unversed, 'Jawan' will be releasing in theatres on September 7, 2023, and as a result, 'Gadar 2' might lose a number of screens in theatres.
'Gadar 2' on Monday collected Rs 2.5 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk, taking the total domestic nett collection to Rs 503 crore, still Rs 21 crore behind the tally of 'Pathaan' in just the Hindi version.
'Jawan', which also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi and Deepika Padukone, is also seeing very good advance booking numbers, and it needs to be seen whether the Atlee-directorial manages to break the records of 'Pathaan' and 'Gadar 2'.
'Pathaan' was SRK's comeback project earlier this year, and the Siddharth Anand-directorial smashed records left, right and centre.
‘Gadar 2’, helmed by Anil Sharma, also stars his son Utkarsh Sharma in the lead role. The new Hindi movie was released alongside Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam’s ‘OMG 2’ on August 11.
Since its release, ‘Gadar 2’ collected Rs 284.63 crore in the first week, Rs 134.47 crore in week two and Rs 63.35 crore in the third week.
Set in 1971, ‘Gadar 2’ follows Tara Singh's (Sunny Deol) journey to Pakistan to rescue his son, Charanjeet (Utkarsh Sharma). Besides Sunny Deol, Utkarsh Sharma and Ameesha Patel, ‘Gadar 2’ also stars Manish Wadhwa, Gaurav Chopra, Simrat Kaur, Luv Sinha, Rakesh Bedi and Dolly Bindra.
The film is a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, which was also directed by Anil Sharma. ‘Gadar’ was a massive hit in 2001, when it clashed against the critically acclaimed ‘Lagaan’, which starred Aamir Khan.
