Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan's 'Border 2' Zooms Past Rs 200 Crore, Emerges As First Success For Bollywood In 2026
Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan's 'Border 2' has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark at the domestic box office.
The 'Border 2' juggernaut keeps rolling on. The Anurag Singh-helmed project, starring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty has vroomed past the Rs 200 crore mark at the domestic box office and the film is showing no signs of slowing down at the ticket counters. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Border 2' earned Rs 13 crore on Wednesday, the sixth day of its release, taking the total earnings to Rs 213 crore.
It is worth mentioning that 'Border 2's earnings took a steep fall on Wednesday, and the project witnessed a 35 per cent downfall from the previous day's collections, which were estimated to be Rs 20 crore on Tuesday, as per Sacnilk.
'Border 2' started its journey at the box office with a collection of Rs 30 crore on its opening day and followed it up with collections of Rs 36.50 crore and Rs 54.50 crore on the next two days. The film then registered its biggest single-day haul yet on Monday, which happened to be a national holiday owing to Republic Day.
The Hindi film earned Rs 59 crore on Monday, the fourth day of its release. According to Sacnilk, the film took just five days to go past the Rs 200 crore mark in India. 'Border 2' has already become the first big hit for Bollywood in 2026 and it is currently the highest-grossing Indian film of the year for any Indian project.
The road ahead for 'Border 2' is expected to be tricky, considering Rani Mukerji's 'Mardaani 3' will hit the theatres on Friday, January 30.
However, Rani's film would be heavily reliant on word of mouth. The battle for screens will intensify, and for the opening weekend of 'Mardaani 3', 'Border 2' is expected to lose out on a few shows both in single screens and multiplexes.
Coming back to 'Border 2', the film is set against the 1971 India–Pakistan war, and it also stars Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, and Medha Rana. It is produced by the powerhouse team of Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta.
The project serves as a sequel to the 1997 smash hit 'Border', directed by JP Dutta.
