'Peddi', starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, has been performing exceptionally well at the box office.
'Peddi', starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles, is showing no signs of slowing down at the box office. The Buchi Babu Sana directorial earned Rs 31.90 crore on Sunday, the fourth day of its collection, taking the total earnings to Rs 157.15 crore. The film earned more than Rs 30 crore across 9,068 shows on Sunday. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the worldwide collections of the film stand at Rs 233.02 crore.
The Telugu film began its box office journey with Rs 18.50 crore in paid previews and followed it up with collections of Rs 51 crore (Thursday), Rs 26.90 crore (Friday) and Rs 28.85 crore (Saturday).
While the film has been performing exceptionally well in theatres, it has been involved in a lot of chatter about the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor's character. On Saturday, the director acknowledged the backlash, saying the controversial parts will be removed.
Taking to X, he wrote, "As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously. I have always had immense respect for women, both on and off screen, and it was never our intention to objectify or disrespect any female character. If any part of the film has been perceived that way, we respect those sentiments, understand the concerns being raised, and sincerely apologize."
"After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned portions. Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities. Every woman deserves to be respected, valued, and represented with dignity. We remain committed to telling stories that celebrate strong characters and uphold those values. Thank you to everyone who shared their views honestly and sincerely," he added.
‘Peddi’ tells the story of a man who comes to redefine himself through sport. Ram Charan's character plays multiple sports in the film including cricket, wrestling and sprinting. Adding to the film's star-studded appeal, the cast includes prominent names like Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani in key roles.
The magnum opus is backed by several major production banners. It is produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under Vriddhi Cinemas, co-produced by Ishan Saksena under IVY Entertainment, and presented by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings.
The recent weekend was good for the box office as multiple movies made a respectable amount of money. 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai', starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde, made Rs 24 crore in its opening weekend.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, 'Bandar' directed by Anurag Kashyap and starring Bobby Deol and Sanya Malhotra made Rs 2.45 crore.
