Fans School Vivek Agnihotri After His ‘The Kashmir Files’ “Shortlisted For Oscars 2023 In First List Of Academy” Tweet
Vivek Agnihotri took to Twitter to share that ‘The Kashmir Files’ has been “shortlisted for Oscars 2023 in the first list of The Academy”. However, some Twitter users started trolling him.

Vivek Agnihotri’s directorial ‘The Kashmir Files’, which released in March 2022, recently achieved a big feat after earning a spot in the Oscars 2023 Reminder List. Besides ‘The Kashmir Files’, several other Indian movies also made it to the coveted list. These are among the 301 films that have been deemed eligible for nominations by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the body behind the Oscars. However, instead of celebrating the feat, fans took to Twitter to school Vivek Agnihotri. Wondering why? It had to do with his somewhat misleading tweet.
For the unversed, the Oscars Reminder List, which came out recently, features movies that are not nominated for Oscars 2023 yet but have been featured as candidates eligible for a nomination.
So merely earning a spot in the list does not guarantee that a film will advance to the final nominations, which are yet to be announced.
Coming back to Vivek Agnihotri’s tweet, he celebrated the feat writing that his directorial has been “shortlisted for #Oscars2023 in the first list of @TheAcademy.”
However, some Indian movies like ‘Chhello Show’, ‘RRR’, ‘All That Breathes’ and ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ have already made it to the first Oscars shortlists for four categories.
The Oscars 2023 shortlist came out in December 2022.
Some Twitter users who seemed to be well-versed with how the Oscars’ nomination process works decided to clear the confusion which Vivek Agnihotri’s tweets caused.
Check out Vivek Agnihotri’s tweets here:

And here’s how Twitter schooled Vivek Agnihotri:
Several other Indian films including Gangubai Kathiawadi , RRR , The Kashmir Files , Chhello Show, Iravin Nizhal, Rocketry, Me Vasantrao, The Next Morning and Vikrant Rona among others have made it to the "reminder" list of films eligible for Oscars 2023

Keep Lying and Misleading the Indians. Man, this is the height. Nothing is shortlisted. Only one Indian Film is shortlisted and that is "Last Film Show". Yours is just "Eligible"

The shortlist was already announced few days back and it has only 4 Indian films - RRR, Chello Show, All That Breathes, The Elephant Whisperers.

Your film is not nominated. It has just been declared "eligible for nomination" (which isn't a big deal).
You have shared a cropped version of a longer document. This is just a list of films that are eligible for nomination. It's a 44 page document listing 301 films.

The shortlist was announced a few days back and the only Indian feature films in it are RRR and Chello Show. pic.twitter.com/faFwqP3UtP

While Pan Nalin's ‘Chhello Show’ (Last Film Show) is India's official entry to the upcoming Academy Awards, there are other Indian films apart from ‘Chhello Show’ and ‘The Kashmir Files’ that are eyeing a spot in the final nominations.
‘Kantara’, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, ‘Vikrant Rona’, ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’, ‘Me Vasantrao’, and ‘Tujhya Sathi Kahi Hi’ are some of the films that have made it to Oscars 2023 reminder list.
In the first Oscars 2023 shortlists, ‘RRR’ was shortlisted for its energetic song ‘Naatu Naatu’, while ‘Last Film Show’ was shortlisted for the International Feature Film category.
Shaunak Sen’s film ‘All That Breathes’, an internationally co-produced Hindi documentary, was shortlisted for the Documentary Feature Film category.
Kartiki Gonsalves’ Netflix documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ was shortlisted in the Documentary Short Film category. The documentary is produced by Oscar winner Guneet Monga of Indian documentary ‘Period. End of Sentence’ fame.

The 95th Academy Awards will be held on March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
