Raashii Khanna Talks About Underwhelming Box Office Performance Of ‘Yodha’, Blames It On Movie’s Eventual OTT Release
‘Yodha’, starring Raashii Khanna, Sidharth Malhotra and Disha Patani, released in theatres on March 15 but failed to make a big impact at the box office.
The takers for high-octane action movies are increasing by the minute, and hence it comes as no surprise that more and more makers in Bollywood are coming up with action dramas. ‘Yodha’, an action-packed film starring Sidharth Malhotra, Raashii Khanna, and Disha Patani, was released in theatres on March 15, 2024. The new Hindi movie, helmed by debutant duo Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha, made headlines as the lead stars actively promoted the film before its release. ‘Yodha’ also made history by becoming the first ever Hindi movie to have its poster unveiled from a staggering height of 13,000ft.
Despite all the hype around the movie, it failed to perform well at the domestic box office. The new Hindi movie has only made Rs 34.53 crore in India. Raashii Khanna has now opened up about the underwhelming box office performance of the film.
In an interview with India Today, Raashii Khanna said that the challenge is to bring audiences to theatres when everyone knows that the movie will be eventually released on OTT.
Speaking about the underperformance of ‘Yodha’, Raashii Khanna said, “Maybe there's somebody who loves it, then somebody who hates it. There'll always be all kinds of people, but obviously, we want, when the film is released, a lot of people should like it.”
She added, “I think the challenge has been to bring them to theatres still, because now everyone knows that the film will be released on OTT. So that is a challenge that even people face. I also sometimes do it, but that's also because I am always occupied. But I know people, in general, are very occupied today, so bringing them to theatres is a problem.”
Raashii Khanna further said, “I don't think Yodha is a bad film at all, so that's fine. I think every film has its destiny, and you just learn from it and then move on to your next. That's all we can do.”
The Indian actress also said that apart from everything else, she is happy that her work has gotten praise from the audience.
She said, “You love the fact that it has received love because that's what you work so hard for. But apart from that, my job is always to deliver my best and to see that the audience is enjoying my part as well. Because if a film works, but you don't work, then that's sad in a way.”
Raashi Khanna added, “So I'm really happy with the reactions I'm getting. I'm really happy that people are really loving me, coming back into Hindi films, and seeing me on the big screen. I was also very, very happy to see myself on the big screen in Hindi. This is amazing. It was a very nice moment and a very nice feeling that I had.”
‘Yodha’ is produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Shashank Khaitan. Recently, Amazon Prime Video India announced that the new Hindi movie will stream on its streaming platform after completing its run in theatres.
