“Tu Thappad Maar…”: Mrunal Thakur Recalls Feeling “Overwhelmed” While Working With Shahid Kapoor In ‘Jersey’
Mrunal Thakur, who shared screen space with Shahid Kapoor in ‘Jersey’, opened up about working with the Bollywood actor.
‘Jersey’, starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur in the lead roles, came out in April 2022. It was directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. ‘Jersey’ received widespread critical acclaim for its gripping storyline, emotional depth, and powerful performances. However, the film failed to perform well at the box office. After releasing on OTT, the film received more love. The heartwarming sports drama film followed the journey of a former cricketer who returned to the game to fulfill his son's dream and redeem himself.
Mrunal Thakur, who starred as Shahid Kapoor’s wife in the movie, never shies away from calling herself a fan of the Bollywood actor and his hit film ‘Jab We Met’. Recently, Mrunal Thakur opened up about her experience of working with Shahid Kapoor, revealing that she often forgot her lines on the sets.
“The day when I was supposed to meet him and do a script reading, I reached the wrong address, so I got late. When I finally met Shahid, I told him, ‘Your smile in real life is exactly l how it is on-screen’. During the shoot of Jersey, there were days when I would forget my lines because I was so overwhelmed being on the sets with Shahid Kapoor,” Mrunal Thakur told Humans of Bombay in a recent interaction.
Mrunal Thakur further shared that she is often intimidated by stars she admires on-screen.
“While doing our scenes in Jersey, I kept thinking in my head, ‘This is Aditya (Shahid’s character in Jab We Met),” shared Mrunal Thakur, adding, “He is such a great co-actor. Initially, it was awkward. The first week was tough but when we got the hang of Vidya and Arjun, our on-screen characters, things got very smooth.”
Recalling one of the toughest moments from the shooting of ‘Jersey’, she said slapping Shahid Kapoor was a big task.
“Slapping Shahid was really, really tough. It was the first proper scene that we were shooting. I suggested we take it slow and do a few montages but that particular scene was my first encounter with Shahid’s character, Arjun. The director was quite understanding and told me to take my time. Shahid was extremely supportive and told me, ‘Tu thappad maar mujhe’. When you have the comfort zone with a co-actor, scenes flow smoothly,” Mrunal Thakur recalled.
She also shared that the scene was only shot with two camera set-ups and was done in two-three hours.
Meanwhile, Mrunal Thakur can be currently seen in the new Telugu movie ‘The Family Star’, directed by Parasuram and co-starring Vijay Deverakonda. ‘The Family Star’ released in theatres on April 5.
The Telugu movie 'The Family Star' has emerged as a box office flop after it was not able to find many takers at the ticket counters. So far, the movie has minted Rs 21.55 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.
In 2023, Mrunal Thakur was seen in projects like ‘Gumraah’, ‘Made In Heaven 2’, ‘Lust Stories 2’, ‘Aankh Micholi’, ‘Pippa’ and ‘Hi Nanna’.
