Kapil Sharma's 'Zwigato' Gets Recognition At Academy of Motion Picture Library, Director Nandita Das Reacts
Kapil Sharma-starrer 'Zwigato' has earned a spot at the Oscar library.

Kapil Sharma's 'Zwigato' which had released in theatres in March this year, is once again making news, and it is for all the right reasons. The Nandita Das-directorial has now earned a spot in the permanent core collection of the Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Nandita Das herself confirmed the development on Instagram.
Taking to Instagram, she wrote: "I was most surprised and delighted to receive an email from the Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (The Oscars!) about wanting the script of Zwigato for their Permanent Core Collection. It is a happy reminder that the film is relevant and glad we made it. I believe only when stories are authentic and rooted in their own contexts, they transcend cultures and borders and become part of world cinema."
"I am glad that it will be available in the library for students, filmmakers and writers. The overwhelming response that we have got for Zwigato from both audiences and critics has opened unexpected doors such as this. Hope OTT platforms are reading this! I think it’s time to give the audience the opportunity to see Zwigato. Thank you Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for this honour," she added.
When 'Zwigato' had released in theatres, it tanked at the box office, however, it was widely appreciated by the critics.
Despite rave reviews, the movie has not yet found a OTT platform and Nandita Das mentioned the same in her Instagram post.
Kapil Sharma also shared the screenshot of 'Zwigato' being recognised and he wrote: "Thank you Academy for this honour. #Gratitude #Oscar.”
In 'Zwigato', Kapil Sharma played a food delivery rider, who does everything possible to make ends meet.
Apart from Kapil Sharma, 'Zwigato' also stars Shahana Goswami, Gul Panag, Sayani Gupta and Swanand Kirkire. For the unversed, 'Zwigato' had premiered at the Toronto and Busan International Film Festivals and the movie garnered positive reactions.
Previously, Kapil Sharma has starred in movies like 'Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon' and 'Firangi'.
