“Mujhe Rile Up...”: John Abraham Stands By Calling Journalist “Idiot” At ‘Vedaa’ Trailer Launch Event
John Abraham explained his actions, saying the journalist “deserved” it. He also said that the journalist was “planted” there to “provoke” him.
Bollywood actor John Abraham is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film ‘Vedaa’, which is set to release in cinemas on August 15, 2024, alongside ‘Stree 2’ and ‘Khel Khel Mein’. Recently, the trailer of ‘Vedaa’ was launched in Mumbai. During the trailer launch, John Abraham lost his cool at a reporter after the latter asked him about doing films in his comfort zone. John Abraham had retaliated by calling the journalist an “idiot”. In a new interview, John Abraham has now explained his actions, saying that the journalist “deserved” it. He also said that the journalist was “planted” there to “provoke” him.
“Mujhe pata hai ek aadmi ko bithaya gaya tha mujhe rile up karne ke liye, mujhe antagonise karne ke liye, mujhe gussa karne ke liye. Aur main yeh bhi kehna chahta hoon ki wo jeeta, aur main hara. Kyunki mujhe gussa aaya. First of all, I was out of practice, I have not been in a press conference for very long,” said John Abraham during the interview with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia.
“Mujhe trailer launches pasand nahi hai, kyunki aap time travel karke 20 saal piche jaate ho. Wahi journalists bethe hai, wahi behuda sawaal, koi sahi sawal nahi puchta hai aur entertainment journalism mere hisab se India main ab khatam ho chuka hai. Koi intelligent sawal nahi puchta hai, aur ek bichara banda betha tha, jiske maalik ne kaha hoga ki pucho usko, usko thoda chabi do, kyunki hume kuch milega,” he added.
Further explaining his behaviour at the trailer launch, John Abraham said, “Usne kiya, at that point, I reacted. Wo nahi jeeta, main hara. I am bigger than that, did he deserve that? Yeah. But I moved on, lekin baad me, main bas 1 minute me track par aa gaya, sochke ki mujhe apne aap pe focus karna hai.”
For the unversed, ‘Vedaa’ has been directed by Nikkhil Advani. The movie is the fourth collaboration of John Abraham with Nikkhil’s Emmay Entertainment after ‘Batla House’ and the two ‘Satyameva Jayate’ films.
The upcoming Hindi movie also stars Sharvari Wagh, Abhishek Banerjee, and Tamannaah Bhatia.
“With all due respect to Batla House, Satyameva Jayate and everything we have done, Vedaa is the best work Nikkhil and I have done together. It’s outstanding,” John Abraham said at the trailer launch event.
“I tell the team always that when a film isn’t good, no amount of marketing will help it. I’m pumped and I’m proclaiming on stage, Vedaa is a really good film. It’ll work. Now how much will it work, I don’t know. But it has fantastic actors and Nikkhil as the director. I’m saying this on-record—and I’m a half-Parsi, so if something’s bad, I say it. I don’t care. Vedaa is a very good film,” he added.
