Indian actress Janhvi Kapoor, fresh off her appearance at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, has sparked controversy after seemingly liking an Instagram reel that took a subtle jab at Madhuri Dixit. The viral reel compared Madhuri’s dance from a popular song – calling it a “vulgar step” that won her an award – with Sridevi’s powerful performance in ‘Khuda Gawah’, which allegedly went unrecognised. The post featured a split-screen of the two actresses, igniting debate among fans and raising questions over whether Janhvi’s like was intentional or just another Instagram glitch.
On one side, Madhuri Dixit's iconic dance on ‘Dhak Dhak Karne Laga’ from ‘Beta’ played. The text on the particular clip read, “Madhuri in Beta - Did vulgar step song and did nothing in the movie and won Filmfare Best Actress award.”
On the other hand, one can see Sridevi in ‘Khuda Gawah’. The scene showed the late actress giving an emotional speech. The text on this particular clip read, “Did double role with landmark acting that carried whole movie on her shoulder still Filmfare ignored her for Best Actress.”
For the unversed, both the films were released around the same time in 1992.

Speaking of Janhvi Kapoor, she will soon be seen opposite Sidharth Malhotra in ‘Param Sundari’, a romantic comedy that tells the story of a charming clash between a “North ka munda” and a “South ki Sundari.” Directed by Tushar Jalota, the film is slated for release in theatres on July 25.
She’s also gearing up for the much-anticipated Telugu film ‘Peddi’, starring alongside Ram Charan. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the film also features Shiva Raj Kumar, Divyenndu, and Jagapathi Babu in key roles.
The Bollywood actress also has ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ alongside Varun Dhawan in the pipeline.
