Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan knows how to throw a birthday that doubles as a mood board of her own life. The ‘Kedarnath’ actress, who turned 31 on August 12, has treated her 45-million-strong Instagram following to a vibrant photo dump from her celebration – and true to form, it is equal parts glamour, goofiness and heart. Sharing the carousel on her handle, Sara kept the caption sweetly self-aware, writing that she felt “blessed to be surrounded” by people who know her completely yet are cool – and insane – enough to stick around anyway.

The comments section melted, with fans and friends flooding it with love and calling the post “wholesome”.

The bash was styled as “Sara's Carnival,” and the hand-painted backdrop did the heavy lifting on theme. Look closely and it reads like a scrapbook of everything Sara loves: a sun and crescent moon, a rolling film reel, a vintage pink camera, a swipe of mascara and lip gloss, a frothy cappuccino, a stack of books, a Kedarnath-style temple, the Statue of Liberty and even a Columbia University flag – a cheeky wink at her New York alma mater, where she studied history and political science.

Sara herself was the pop of colour throughout, in a quirky lime-green fish-print mini dress paired with a crystal-mesh sling bag, printed flip-flops and playful temporary tattoos. The photo booth came loaded with cheeky props – "partner in crime," "OH BOY!," "XOXO," "Limited Edition" and "Queen" signboards, a giant pink camera cutout, guitar-shaped glasses, rainbow spectacles and even a toy blaster and a fake-blood gag for good, chaotic measure.
Family was firmly at the centre of it all. Brother Ibrahim Ali Khan turned up in an olive shirt, camo trousers and a dab of face paint, hamming it up for the camera in several frames. Their mother, actress Amrita Singh, sported a crisp white shirt-dress and a swirl of snake face paint, beaming in group hugs with both her children. The rest of the carousel captures Sara's tight-knit girl gang and friends striking pose after pose, one cradling her birthday cake as the party hit full swing.
The showstopper, though, was the cake – or rather, cakes. Beyond a small "Happy Birthday Sara" round, the centrepiece was a towering rainbow drip creation crowned with edible odes to her world: a Columbia University crest, a movie clapperboard reading “Actor: Sara Ali Khan / Production: Happy Birthday / 2026,” the Statue of Liberty, a film reel and camera, dumbbells and kettlebells marked 5kg and 10kg, running shoes, a coffee cup and a family photo topper. A playful "13" candle sat on top – an inside-joke flip on the numbers – as Sara leaned in to blow it out beneath the Columbia banner.
It was, in short, a carnival built entirely around Sara – cinema, fitness, coffee, travel and the people who make her laugh.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Sara Ali Khan was last seen alongside Ayushmann Khurrana in ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’. The movie, co-starring Rakul Preet Singh and Wamiqa Gabbi, released in theatres on May 15.
Prior to this, Sara featured in Anurag Basu's ‘Metro In Dino’, co-starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Ali Fazal, and more.
Up next, Sara Ali Khan will be seen opposite Ayushmann Khurrana in 'Udta Teer'. Directed by Akash A Kaushik, the movie will release on October 9, 2026.
