For the unversed, 'Maharaj' was slated to be released in cinemas on June 14, but the film's release on Netflix faced objections from certain sections, who claimed that the Hindi film offends their religious sentiments.

As per Hindustan Times, Yash Raj Films, the production house behind 'Maharaj', told the Gujarat High Court that they would seek damages from the petitioners who approached the court to block the movie, if the court found the film unobjectionable.

“There are only two options – if the court concludes that the film fails the test of art as laid down by the Supreme Court, the injunction may continue… if the court finds there is nothing wrong with the movie, then they must deposit ₹100 crore to the court and we can give calculations (of the losses incurred)," senior lawyer Shalin Mehta said, as per Hindustan Times.

For the unversed, the film 'Maharaj' is based on a landmark case of 1862 that was filed by a leading Vaishnavite figure, Jadunathji, against journalist and social reformer Karsandas Mulji.

The movie is based on the 2013 novel about the same case, written by the bestselling Gujarati writer Saurabh Shah.

Returning to 'Maharaj', the new Hindi film also features a special appearance from Sharvari Wagh. The film also stars Jaideep Ahlawat.

For the unversed, Junaid Khan is the son of Aamir Khan and his first wife Reena Dutta. Apart from ‘Maharaj’, Junaid Khan is working on two other films.

He will make his debut as a producer with ‘Pritam Pyaare’, which will have an extended guest appearance by Aamir Khan.

Junaid Khan will also star alongside Sai Pallavi in a film backed by Aamir Khan Productions.
