Director and choreographer Farah Khan, who turned a year older today, gained fame for her stunning choreography in numerous hit songs. She then ventured into directing, and made her directorial debut with the hit film ‘Main Hoon Na’, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Sushmita Sen. Farah Khan also started producing films but choreography is something she didn’t leave behind. Farah Khan continued her successful directorial journey with films like ‘Om Shanti Om’ (2007) and ‘Happy New Year’ (2014). Apart from her directorial ventures, Farah Khan also hosted television shows and appeared as a judge on dance reality shows.

Among the many tracks that Farah Khan has choreographed over the years, the star-studded song ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ remains a fan-favourite. And rightly so, the song featured so many iconic Bollywood stars together.

If you happen to be from the Gen-Z category and aren’t quite familiar with the song, ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ featured stars like Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra, Rekha, Tabu, Karisma Kapoor, Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Mithun Chakraborty, Kajol, Rani Mukerji and Juhi Chawla among others.

Naturally, getting so many stars onboard is tough but Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan made it happen. You ask how? Well, Farah Khan revealed it herself in one of her previous interviews.

On her birthday today, we decided to look back at Farah Khan’s interview with Film Companion wherein she revealed how she and Shah Rukh Khan got so many stars onboard for the ‘Om Shanti Om’ song.

As a token of gratitude for featuring in ‘Deewangi Deewangi’, King Khan and Farah Khan gifted all the Bollywood stars expensive hampers.

Every celebrity who took their time out for the song was given a hamper with many gifts worth Rs 1 lakh, including a Blackberry phone and a Tag Heuer watch.

What’s more? All the Bollywood actresses who featured in the song were allowed to keep their Manish Malhotra-designed clothes from the shoot. What a dream, right?

According to Farah Khan, there could have been more stars in the song, but many didn’t make it. Fardeen Khan got arrested at Dubai airport in a drug case when he was on the way to shoot for the song. Late star Dev Anand refused to be in the song because he “only did lead roles, not cameos”. And according to Farah Khan, it was Shah Rukh Khan’s responsibility to rope in late star Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu for the song. But, they never showed up.

Farah Khan also revealed that Amitabh Bachchan would have showed up, but he was a busy with Abhishek Bachchan’s wedding to Aishwarya Rai. Aamir Khan refused to shoot the song because he was editing ‘Taare Zameen Par’.
