Celina Jaitly Files Domestic Violence Case Against Husband Peter Haag, Seeks Rs 50 Crore In Damages
Actress Celina Jaitly has filed a domestic violence case against her husband Peter Haag, seeking Rs 50 crore in damages.
Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly has reportedly initiated legal proceedings against her husband, Austrian entrepreneur and hotelier Peter Haag, filing a case under the Domestic Violence Act. The matter, which reportedly includes allegations of cruelty and manipulation, was brought before the Court of SC Tadye, Judicial Magistrate First Class in Andheri, Mumbai, for verification and notice on Tuesday. According to reports, Celina is seeking damages amounting to Rs 50 crore.
This sum is being claimed in lieu of the loss of her source of income, properties, and “unrealized potential profits” from a career she was allegedly forced to abandon during the marriage.
New details regarding the severity of the situation were provided by Celina’s lawyer, Niharika Karanjawala. Speaking to Mid-Day, Karanjawala alleged that the actress faced financial manipulation and was prevented from working in films despite having a solid career when she married.
The lawyer painted a harrowing picture of Celina's return to India. “She practically had to escape and run to India with nothing,” Karanjawala stated. Addressing why the children are not currently with her, the lawyer explained, “She wasn’t in a position to bring her children. She feared her husband might make out a case of kidnapping, which could have permanently harmed her custody case.” Peter Haag has not yet publicly refuted these allegations.
Hours after the news of the lawsuit broke, Celina broke her silence on Instagram with a long, emotional note accompanied by a throwback picture of her in a green saree. Using the hashtags ‘#courage’ and ‘#divorce’, she described the “turbulent storm” of fighting alone without her parents or support system.
“I never thought there would come a day without all the pillars on which the roof of my world once rested... & the one who promised to stand by me, love me, care for me, & bear every trouble with me,” she wrote.
She described her resilience, stating, “It forced me to meet the woman inside me who refuses to die. Because I am a soldier’s daughter, raised on courage, discipline, grit, resilience, fire & faith.”
In her statement, Celina highlighted that her current priorities are fighting for her children’s love, her dignity, and the return of her brother, who has reportedly been detained in the UAE for nearly a year. She expressed gratitude to her legal team, Karanjawala & Co, for being her “shield” but refrained from commenting further as the matter is subjudice.
For the unversed, Celina and Peter Haag married in 2011. They are parents to three sons: twins Winston and Viraaj (born in 2012) and Arthur (born in 2017). Tragically, Arthur’s twin brother, Shamsher, passed away shortly after birth due to a heart condition.
