Anurag Kashyap Believes Indians Are "Genetically Hypocrites". Here's Why
Anurag Kashyap spoke about Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor-starrer 'Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui'.

Director and actor Anurag Kashyap has been busy off late as he has been promoting his latest movie 'Haddi' in which co-stars alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The movie released on ZEE5 on September 7, and it has received mixed reviews, but both Nawazuddin and Anurag Kashyap have received applause for their performances. In the latest entertainment news, in a conversation with Puja Talwar’s YouTube Channel, Anurag Kashyap spoke about Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor-starrer 'Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui'.
Anurag Kashyap shared his theory about why the movie did not work at the box office. For the unversed, Vaani Kapoor had played the role of a trans woman in the film.
"The audience didn’t watch Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, they got uncomfortable with the film. It’s such a great film, I love that film and Vaani Kapoor’s performance is one of the finest that I saw in that film. But people get uncomfortable. People got uncomfortable in the opening scene of Manmarziyaan," said Anurag Kashyap.
"Some people told me, ‘The girl and boy are caught in one room and then her brother sees him off at the door.’ So, I feel our conditioning is like this. Sex is such a ‘haw’ word for us. We avoid conversations around that. Sex is a three-letter word which is very offensive to people," he added.
Speaking further about it, he said: "They use it as titillation and a lure to make money, but they don’t want to do real conversation around it. A new film is coming, Thank You For Coming, I am loving the campaign and the posters. People will go to watch this film, but they will go alone… We are genetically hypocrites and we will remain hypocrites.”
For the unversed, 'Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui' received positive reviews, and the plot of the movie revolved around a tumultuous love story between a Punjabi bodybuilder, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, and a Zumba instructor, a trans woman played by Vaani Kapoor.
The movie earned good reviews, but it did not find any love at the box office.
