Veteran Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan has put an end to speculation surrounding his health after a recent blog post led many fans to believe he had undergone surgery. The 83-year-old actor clarified that his words had been misinterpreted and confirmed that he did not have any surgical procedure. Concern began spreading on Tuesday after Amitabh Bachchan shared an emotional entry on his Tumblr blog, reflecting on hospital visits, recovery, and time spent in an intensive care unit.
The post appeared a day after the FIFA World Cup final, where Spain defeated Argentina to claim their second world title. While the actor made no direct mention of the tournament, his reflections prompted many readers to assume he was speaking about his own health.
“I am fine. I did not undergo surgery. It is a misunderstood post. I was giving an example that the period after a surgery or ICU, the most difficult time is when you come home and have to deal with your damaged condition. So when a champion loses, the most difficult time is dealing with yourself in its aftermath," Big B said while speaking to Variety India.
The legendary actor also clarified that his post was not about himself; it was about the Argentine football team, which lost the FIFA World Cup 2026 final against Spain on Sunday.
“I was referring to Argentina’s loss (against Spain in the FIFA World Cup) and Messi as a champion that lost. People have assumed it's a reference to me,” he said. When asked if his health was ok, he replied, “Absolutely…so far.”
Earlier, in the blog, Big B wrote about being admitted to a hospital, spending time in the ICU under the supervision of skilled doctors and medical staff, and eventually returning home. “In a hospital, in a surgery, and in the ICU, under the care of proficient Doctors and medical Staff, a discharge and a homecoming. This homecoming period is the most difficult phase, physically, psychologically and practically. You are a revered Champion and one day a defeat stares at you, this is the most difficult phase of your life,” he wrote
"Some brave it, some succumb, they that strive and be brave ever remain Champions, they that do not, get reconciled and live, exist in the past glory, a choice each makes individually, nothing wrong by either. Be well, be happy," he added.
On the professional front, Amitabh Bachchan has an exciting slate ahead. He is set to reprise his role as the immortal warrior Ashwatthama in the sequel to 'Kalki 2898 AD'. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the upcoming film will once again feature Prabhas and Kamal Haasan in key roles. The makers previously confirmed that Deepika Padukone, who was a part of the first installment, has exited the project.
Apart from his film commitments, Amitabh Bachchan is also preparing to return to television as the host of the latest season of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati'.
